Has anyone figured out a way for a "do it yourself" mod so the fuel light comes on later? I don't have a manual yet but I'd think you could adjust the pick-up on the sesor to come on later. Anyone know of anything yet?
The sensor is removed by taking off the bottom plate off the tank , comes out with the pump etc , great long bloody thing . I think some have removed and bent the sensor rod to get the light on at a better level .
I always ride off the mileage , so fill up at around 140 miles , though I have been as far as 180 . Light comes on at around 130 .
Why not just have the dealer do it? It is a warrantee issue and it won't take them that long to do so you can just wait while it's done, though you should make sure your dealer knows how to fix it before you go in since many dealers are "out of the loop".
Personally, I don't care about the early light. I just left it as-is and run off mile trip meter, like I have done on all my other bikes.
Well you could be right Silly.
At the time my attention wasn't on this thing, I was looking for gas in the tank :? and oooh yes I was empty.
Heres what happend.
The light is sh#t, so we all know.
So.. when I had the bike new the light came on at 100 mls and after 60 mls more I left with a bit less than a gallon in the tank.
I started to ignore the light and go fillup after 160 mls
after teaching a ducatie a race lesson and some more playing I run empety at 147 mls
Wow Vic,
147 miles on a tank of gas. You must have been running 120mph + or hard throttling the whole range to get that kind of ****ty of mileage. 22MPG. The EPA is going to be pissed. Any tread left on your tire?
Sorry for being so localized. EPA is the USA's Environmental Protection Agency. Thinking they might get down on that high fuel usage. I have to remember, since I did not, that we are not all from here and little things don't translate well. Ride on and ride hard and fast! It is very difficult to keep the wrist from twisting HARD.
