It cracks me up when there's a question on fuel economy for a 2300cclong bike. Whem my Rocket was stock, I got close to 40MPG as well. With Jardines and a tuned PCIII, I get about 33 MPG.

I think the validity of the question really lies in regards to location. I was somewhat concerned with MPG when I bought my R3 because I eventually (upon retirement) want to tour with it from Alaska through Canada to the United States. I suspect the same is true for Australia in that the potential to "Go Dry" before reaching a gas station is possible. When I questioned my dealer he stated it was not uncommon to for cyclist to "Carry Gas." I'm curious, is this a common strategy in Austrailia? -Doug

Even in the most remote places in The Northern Territory or Western Australia if your on a bitumen road you shouldn't be anymore than 250 klm or 160 miles from a servo. If you fuel up every chance you get in these area's you will be right. I don't know of anyone who would carry fuel on a road bike. Some dirt bike trips have to have back up 4x4 to carry fuel and gear but your talkin fairly serious tripps like across the Simpson or up the Cape the hard way.

When I got married the first time I had hired a Rolls Royce as a wedding car, I asked the driver "what's it like on fuel" his reply was priceless and I made it my fab saying "if you have to ask that you can't afford to own it" fuel economy can range from "friggin awefull but a lot of fun" to "fantastic but crap there were a lot of cops around today" it all comes down to the Right Hand same goes for tyre wear

Hanso, I love the jacket!

That is actually a genuine Triumph pit shirt you should be able to buy from your dealer on the back it has the "Triumph Motorcyles" embroidered and I just got my local embroider who did the "BoogerDave" designed shirts for me here in Auss to modifie the desgine by taking the Meridian Triumph of take the zero pork off and enlarge the 140 cubic inch and so people don't get confused added the 2300cc as most Aussies talking in cc's when it comes to engine size, It cost me about $40 for the shirt and $30 for the extra embroiderie, I am sure anybody wanted one done stateside BoogerDave would probally do it for you just get the shirt. Anybody in Auss wants one get the shirt send it to me and it will cost you the same it cost me $30 plus postage back to you

Totally agree Bruce. If you're on the sort of roads that don't have fuel you're on the wrong bike if you're riding your Rocket. Simple rule is never pass a gas station. Huh, a bit like never passing a public toilet when you get older. ;) (Or wasting a hard on or trusting a fart.)

"Buying a rocket and worrying about mileage is like buying a Viper and worrying about comfort"
A wise man once said that:D
