Free unrestricted maps for Rocket R GT and TFC now online

I have a 22 R3 R. I added the quickshifter and heated grips. I am on IOS and didn’t have an Android device so I bought a Samsung tablet as well as an OBDLINK MX+ adapter. I am in the US. It looks like my stock map would be 31019 based on my VIN. I looked for Penner’s tune and it appears I need “Rocket R USA Full Power 31019Map.hex” to uncork it. I am ready to load the tune but have a few questions before I proceed.

I read somewhere that you need to unlock the speed limiter on the stock tune before downloading the Penner tune and there is an associated fee. No issues with paying the fee but not sure how to go about that and how to proceed.

Do I need to upload the stock map from my ECU into TuneECU and unclick some tick box there whereupon it will reach out to Alain’s server to complete the transaction? Or do I need to download the stock map and do something with it, such as tick a box to remove the limiter and thereby initiate the payment transaction?

Or can I just do this all to the Penner map during the loading process to unlock the speed limiter?

After all this and I’m ready to load the Penner tune, will there be any impact to the quickshifter or heated grips once I load it? For example will this tune overwrite the settings where I’ll have to go back to the dealer to have them enable again?

What is the current consensus on resetting the adaptations? I’ve read so many conflicting opinions that I am not sure which way to go on this.

I plan to add a slip-on exhaust. In general, has anyone found the need to re-tune the Penner tune after a simple muffler swap with something like the Competition Werkes? I’m going with Verex, but they all seem restricted by the header, like my earlier Rocket III.

Is there a good YT vid that covers what I might have missed? I looked at a few, and they tend to skip around and miss key points.

Are there any key things I am missing or other tips to be aware of? I understand the need to pull the headlight fuse and put it on a battery charger. I don’t want a voltage drop and be forced to recover.

Thanks in advance for any insight/advice.

I have PRO version of Tuneecu so I cant tell you but as far as I know when you have normal tuneecu version then you have to email tuneecu developer and ask them to send you an unlocked map

if you get pro version, then there is just a tick box but if you dont have pro version then you have to email and pay and wait for them to send you unlocked map (AFAIK),

no you cant do anything while the map is loading and do not do any thing while the map is loading, just look at it.

no issues with heated grips or quickshift, I am using it for last 2 years, no need to see dealer after flashing map.

do not click that button 'reset adaptations' even by mistake while loading map, lots of people who dont pay attention run that and end up with that issue, not a big deal to fix but its headache, not recommended to run that 'reset adaptations' at all.

I am running werkes with penner map and there are dyno runs + valve+sparkplugs pictures of my bike after 1+year , no issues no need to retune unless you changing headers

on youtube there is one for triumph street triple loading map with tuneecu, different bike same procedure

Make sure battery charger is connected
Headlight fuse is removed
tablet is charged
you are mentally sound ( dont fight with girlfriend/wife. long day after work argument with boss/yelling workers etc. prior to flashing tune for first time)
once you do it, its very easy for next time.
double check, triple check your VIN against the tuneecu map you are flashing.
if you are in doubt go to tuneecu forums and ask there which one is correct map OR someone here with same vin range can confirm that.

Thanks, this is very helpful. I'll reach out to the developer on the unrestricted map. I don't see any need for the pro version at this point.

How long does it normally take to download a tune?

@Tal
45 Euro to unlock speed limiter, that said top end will go from 236kmph to 255 - nothing more so not really worth it IMO ( nearly 2 euro for every km speed gained. this limited to 1 bike, purchase is online and immediate, nothing to upload you just tick the boxes when loading penner.

tune will only override updated parameters, so QS will be good.
DONT reset adaptions, do the 12-15min idle…
you can try my YT video - content is the similar, just presented differently
take your time and be patient, start to finish around 30min…
my overall fuel consumption increased from 15km/l to 14km//l I also drop the engine fan temp trigger from 103degress c to 99C

First, and most important, you should read the instructions on Tuneecu.fr. Your tablet must have 3-4 GB of ram. You need to register the app, and connect and register the bike. Under Map, open the Penner tune. While connected to your ecu, go to parameters under map. There is a OPT button next to the speed limit. I just did this. This should take you through the process of paying for and removing the speed limit. Only if this doesn’t work directly on the Penner tune would you have to download 31019 in the app, get rid of the speed limit on that, save it, and then copy Penner’s tables (only the F tables, the etv tables, and the AFR table) for not it. Then save the tune and load it to your ecu. You can’t read the ecu with a Bluetooth connection. Don’t know if this will affect the quick shifter or heated grips. Don’t do reset adapt. It f’s the crank position sensor calibration.

One problem. Penner derestricted the throttle and added some fuel to the main (F) fuel tables. The ignition is stock except for 3rd gear, where he’s added a small amount of timing below 4000 rpm. This doesn’t make sense. Why only 3rd gear? You probably won’t notice it but it bugs me.

Any idea if and when we will get the new 180hp tune the newer Storm models have released with.

And theoretically they are an identical. Motor so it must be ecu / map side they got the extra torque and hp out of the newer named variant as the motors are unchanged.

I wonder if these can be back ported to the older ones since the internals are not updated at all.

So theoretically it's just a ecu/ map change that took the newer Storm version to 180hp over the 160 the original 3 had.

If the new tables conform (same increments of rpm vs throttle, for example) to the old ones, you can copy the new tables into your old stock maps.

Yeah but we need to get hold of the tables and maps first...

But I do wonder what other tweaks were done, may have even tweaked injectors / throttle' ecu.

They have said same engine internals but not exactly what gave them the increases in rpm and power

I'll wait till. Someone tweaks the new one onto the old tunes, it's my daily so I don't want to mess it up.

And it's in for rear brake recall this week

Download the proper Penner tune and in the tuneecu there is a switch to unlock the speed limiter on the tune. It is all automatic now, just pay the money and it will allow it to be unlocked. I just did this process and that is how it worked for me on the non pro version of the program.

Do I need to upload the stock map from my ECU into TuneECU and unclick some tick box there whereupon it will reach out to Alain’s server to complete the transaction? Just need to load the Penner tune, dont need to mess with the stock map. No need to email or send anything, automated payment process now.
Or can I just do this all to the Penner map during the loading process to unlock the speed limiter?

You do it all before you load it into the bike. You unlock the speed in the tune, not on the bike itself.
The rest of the questions have been answered.
