The ECU continually learns as one rides and applies minor 'corrections' to the base values recorded in the loaded tune. This process is referred to as 'adapting' (the owner's riding habit(s) to the tune effectively). As soon as a new tune is loaded or the Triumph dealer performs an ECU update, the adaptions need to be reset to start a clean slate for adapting associated maps in the new tune.

No the stock map is overwritten and only reloading it will restore it. The adaptation modifies certain aspects of any map loaded and when a new map is loaded a new adaptation is necessary.
 
I read that the correction value is up to 15%. I have no source, other than internet "hearsay."

Idle speed control, oxygen sensor off-idle, and oxygen sensor idle adaptions are all supposed to take up to +/-100%.
And these are all of the/the only "documented" continuously adaptable engine-related adaptions for R3 2,5L.
Some of them can be monitored from TuneECU sensors tab, but their naming in TuneECU are not clear enough for me to understand if they are an adaption range or status (first would be value adaption factor from baseline; second would be a value between 0 and 100 telling how well adapted the value is to current conditions, 0 being fully adapted and 100 not at all).
That's a f*g pain not to have the real Triumph Diagnostic Tool to play with, I just love monitoring and understanding things, I would still pay the dealer for a mere oil change

Reset adaptations is to factory defaults. I’d be surprised if dealers at various altitudes and temperatures do anything to adapt new bikes to local conditions other than put a few miles on them.
 
Agreed. As great as TuneECU is for our immediate needs, as much it needs a SERIOUS upgrade. Modern ECUs now offer a plethora of customizable parameters and adjustments increasingly available for manipulation and on-the-fly monitoring and display. It is like being forced to use a slide rule while Harley owners have multifunction calculators.
 
This feels like a dumb question but I've read through the thread and I'm not 100% clear. I've got a USA market Rocket 3 GT. Which is the file for the unrestricted +14HP tune? The North America market files on the TuneECU website all say OEM in the filename. I assume those are the stock maps for the GT/R/TFC? Which is Penner's unrestricted map?

EDIT: Ok, I think I was looking in the wrong area. I was looking in the "T_3&4_cyl_Map's" area when I needed to be in the "T_Custom_3/4_Cyl_Map's". From there it seems clear enough that I want the "US_Rocket3_GT_Full_Power_31013Map .hex" file. Correct?
 
OK, another dumb question that I can't seem to find the answer for. I've ordered the OBDLink MX+ (I know it's overkill, but may come in handy for other vehicles in the future). Where does it plug in on the bike? Is there already an OBDII port on the bike or do I need to purchase an adaptor cable or something?

EDIT: Hehe, ok, answered my 2nd dumb question just by looking under the seat. Sure enough, OBD2 port is right there and easily accessible. Just pull it off the stowage point and plug in the MX+. Looks like I'm ready to tune this girl up!

I'll just leave both these dumb questions here so the next person doesn't have to ask and answer their own dumb questions.

Yes, there is. And you need nothing else except an Android phone/tablet, the OBDlink App and the TuneECU App - it uses Bluetooth, no cable. It is the same port Triumph uses when they connect their digital wrench to your Rocket. Under the seat, the rear right corner is a big connector that seems to be plugged in. If you lift it, you will notice that it only sits on a blade (place-keeper). Your MX+ will plug into that.
 
OK, just got back after loading the DNK map to my bike. All I can say is holy smokes. This is an entirely different motorcycle with this tune. I have to think it has another 20 hp and 20 pound feet of torque I am unbelievably impressed with the tune of this bike the DNK tune gets my highest recommendation
