Two things mentioned here. Yes, there is often a delay in the gas gauge responding, but you also mentioned the check engine light. IF (related) it could be your clutch switch acting up - just bent. When I had the 2.3 I discovered that a bad clutch switch would make the gas gauge stop working. When I got my 2.5 I noticed after washing the bike (this is when you bend the POS switch on the newer bikes) that the engine light was on AND the gas gauge stopped working. Because of my experience with the 2.3 I figured it out pretty quickly. FYI- a sign that the switch is not working is that you can start the bike without pulling in the clutch lever. I will say that since then I've bent the switch and have not had an issue with the gas gauge, but it will throw an engine light. I'm just wondering if you have a switch that is/was borderline working.
