I've ridden with mine in all weather conditions, including heavy rain, both with and without a pre-filter cover. Hasn't effected the bike at all. I would say the main thing to avoid would be the throttle bodies getting flooded with water while the engine's not running. With a horizontal filter that can't happen as water just runs through it and out the bottom and there's a sizeable lip preventing anything getting into the intake run. There would be greater concern with exposed filters sitting upright or an exposed Ramair but I'm not aware of anyone having problems. As far as running in the rain, it seems that any water ingested gets atomised into a fine mist and does no harm at all.
