Fan in radiator start many times

Hello,

my next problem in Rocket III is fan on radiator. When I ride, and stop, or move slowly fan is immediately ON. Before rocket I had Honda valkyrie, and fan was on maybe when I stop in summer in trafic jam after 5minutes. (but boxer engine,good cooling with air)

But in rocket many times is fan on. When I ride no, but after little stop for 1-2minutes fan is ON.

TOday was 10-15°C a fan was ON after 2min when I opened garege door.

So it,s normal? I changed cooling water, clean the radiator with water. But nothing better.

Friends told me, start bike, a put hand od radiator a check if everywhere is some hot.

Any ideas? Or it normal with this bike?

Fan is ok, check with TUne ECU. But maybe termostat, but I started bike, about 15°C on stand, and about 3minut the motor had temperature about 90°. I check radiator, and from left back side, It´s some white "splodge" ....

So my friends think that maybe radiator was leaking andfirts owner used some "miracle fluid" to fix radiator, and maybe this miracle fluid blocked the radiator in some part.

I will check.

Can somebody do a test? Start cold bike in about 15-20°C a stop the time when start fan?

If you have TuneECU or TuneBoy then you can diagnose if there is a problem. Hook the bike up to TuneECU (or TB) and there is a fan test button which will test to see that the fan turn on and off is correct. With TuneECU you can (and should) read and save the tune which is in your bike. When you do that you will be able to see the engine temperature which will turn on the radiator fan. If that is set too low then that could be your problem.

If that is all correct then start you bike (with the software still hooked up), monitor the engine temp, and see the temperature at which the fan kicks on. If the temperature is erratic then you probably have a bad connector to the engine temp sensor, or (less likely) a bad sensor. This will cause the fan to come on intermittently.

I say follow Ian's advice look up in your manual snd see when it is supposed to turn on and off then plug in ad see if it is programmed for that and if not does it follow what it is prgramed for. If its a florida bike it might be programed to cycle earlier do to the heat. Let us know what the tunr on temp is and the turn off temp is. Plus your location and weather.
 
The fan should come on at around 103C - it may vary depending on your settings. The radiator fan setting is on the bottom LHS of the TuneECU.

When the bike is cold, open the radiator and look at the fluid. It should be clear - but green. (I tink that is the OEM colour.) If it is milky white then you may have a problem. Somebody may have use a leak sealant to repair a leak. Also check the oil and make sure that it is not contaminated with coolant.

If the radiator has been "repaired" this way then it would be worthwhile getting it repaired correctly and putting new fluid back in.

This winter I checked radiator, clean up with water. Some "gel" was there and refulled now coolant. But nothing change. So Today I will try to check temperature with Tune ECU....but I have problem, when I start bike, Tune Ecu stop reading from ECU and I must turn ignition of/on to connect with TUne Ecu....but after 10-15sec when is bike on, Tune Ecu stop reading again...

In monday I will go to Triumph servise for remap ECU and tune bike in dyno. So I can ask about this, but I don´t like servis. I like to do all on bike myself.

And I from Czech Republic. Little country in Europe. Temperature is no high, about 20-25°C, max 30°C in summer. But fan is on in 15°C when I little stop...
 
Some gasket/radiator sealant's will cause coolant to gel, they are also known to jam the thermostat. Maybe the coolant is not circulating and causing the fan to come on more frequently. If the radiator is not getting hot top and bottom then something is blocked.
 
My temp censer was off by 10* F
had it change by triumph came back the same way!!!
so the fan start earlier and its HOT
i got a nice cool map last year and it much better
my manifold are not glowing in the dark anymore

with a laser thermometer you will know if its off
