Don't use the kill switch, is that right?

It is my understanding that turning the kill switch on and off 3 times resets the ECU's readings that have been gathered by the engine monitors (O2 sensor and such). I also understand that you have to perform a 12 minute tune so the O2 sensor readings in the exhaust and other sensors can gather the current running information again.

And if you click your heals together 3 times you will magically be transported to Kansas....

Just kidding around... made me laugh.

Battersea below said it perfectly for me too. Always been told just for emergency not general use.

Not using the kill switch is something I have read about many times but still don't really understand why. Plus what is different about the actual kill switch and other safety switches like the clutch and side stand that kill the engine in much the same way?

How awkward I feel. I use the kill switch for what it's called. I'll have to think about it as the not-run switch from now on.

Same as Bruce and the Scot, I never use the kill switch and almost always use the sidestand. And yes, been boggled a few times when kill switch is accidentally hit, last thing I think of.

There is a really funny story I heard once, about I guy telling his brother in law to start the bike now and then while he was out of town to keep the battery up. He was asked how long he should do it for, was told til spring. So he started the bike and let it run til Spring, brought 5 gallons of gas over periodically and refilled the tank. Or something like that.
Your supposed to shut the engine off when your not using the bike ? I gotta get an owners handbook..........

Evidently, the kill switch does not turn off all the electrical circuits, so the battery may discharge possibly leaving you stranded in BFE.

Glad I stumbled onto this thread, been using the kill switch since I got the bike in May...haven't had any major problems, but the Beast has been a bit stubborn to wake up very once in a while, hopefully this will change now that I am killing the kill switch use immediately.
