Differential drain bolt

Rick the problem is not usually taking the bolt out it is when you tighten it, the torque setting is extremlylow(cannot remember what) and trust me you have to use a torque wrench.
No reason to change the final drive oil frequently no reason at all in fact 10000 miles is about right.

First time I changed it, looked like it was the factory oil. Checked 5000 later, looked black so I changed it. The rear tire is about to need a change and the splines need to be checked for lube so it's a good time to check it.

Drain plug 15 Nm. Fill plug 60 Nm. Nn not lbs.

Bevel box bolts sit cross tighten to 20 Nm and re-torque to 64 Nm.

I hate this piece of the bike so much I won't even remove the bolt. I flip the diff and drain it lol.

Sorry to hear of your situation. Buying a used bevel box is about 1/10th the cost of a new one, and they're a low failure rate part.

The pedantic side of me says it's not a differential.....ffs! There is only one rear wheel on most Rockets.
That's why we have a forum called The Final Drive.
The practical side of me says," You know where I live, bring it by and I'll get it out for you as long as you haven't pushed the magnet right out it should be fine". Hopefully the DPO didn't use loctite on it.

. You just have to do these steps no seals need;REPLACE OIL SEAL INPUT SHFT BEVEL BOX

1 remove plastic cover with 4 M6 bolts.

2 remove 8 M8 bolts from the final drive to open it.

3 screw the 4 M6 bolts of the cover back into the cover. Lightly tap the 4 bolts of the cover with a screwdriver to open the cover of the final transmission.

4 remove the cover with the bearings and gears. Link Removed

I just got finished changing the gear oil out of the bevel box recently. Both the filler bolt and the drain bolt are only had tight.... I mean lightly hand tightened.

Since I have seen how they can strip out and so forth ... I have been very careful with them.

I bought an 05 new, first time I changed oil in the dif broke the bolt of. I then removed the dif and took it apart. After removing the bolts holding it together I very carefully, using 2 1inch paint scrapers pride the two pieces apart. if anyone tries this be very carful because there is a rubber ring between the pieces for an oil seal. I did this because I didn't know any better at the time and it was my last resort. I haven't had any trouble with the rear end since. I have over 40 miles since doing the repair with no problems whatso ever. good luck if you go this route.

You are all looking into this far to deeply, as I said a flat tipped screwdriver that will fit into the hollow bolt with a wee tap and bingo turn it out it comes, it cannot be in tight as the bolt head shears just over the recommended torque which is 9nm---6.5LB FT not tight at all
