Got a R3 Classic 2010. Got a persistant oil leak from diff. Bike has been back to dealers 3 times.New diff been fitted. New drain plug fitted to new diff. Still leaks again after 500 miles. Is this a common fault?

Leak is from diff. Cannot trace exact source. Keep finding oil streaks and droplets on diff side of rear wheel. No oil found from shocks.

Not sure how it fits together but maybe a damaged seal or the surface where the seal sits is damaged causing a leak. Maybe the way wheel is fitted is damaging the seal.

I had the same problem with my 06 as showm in Scotts post #6 it was apparently engine oil coming thru' the drive shaft tube past the seal at the g/box output bearing.. after the engine mod kit was fitted which included the output bearing it never leaked again..

Maybe if your output bearing seal is worn or damaged the drive shaft oil seal can weep allowing eng. oil to drip onto the wheel rim.

Seal can be replaced without engine removal but its a little tricky to fit the seal I was told..

The rear output shaft bearing is a sealed unit now both sides packed with grease. The older style had seal on one side outboard. Some were installed backwords and some had the bearing bore machined slightly off center which cause the bearing to wear and leak. Whats confusing is Triumph quit making Classic's in 09 are you sure your is a 2010 model?
Take off the differntial and look up the tube to see if it has oil in it.
Next question how many miles on here?
Has anyone ever lubricated the drive shaft splines?
Did they use the right grease orjust a general purpose bearing grease that is heating up and sling on everything looking like oil? Same goes with the wheel splines male on the wheel and female on the diferential. They should have moly paste or at least honda moly 60. These are a dryer grease and do not turn to liquid so easy in heat. The slpines get hot down there.
