The plug is spinning around quite freely now and Im confused as to why it doesnt just fall out.
I tried superglueing a bolt on but couldnt get the adhesion they get on TV:mrgreen:

I'm assuming that you are referring to the bottom bolt to drain the oil? This bolt is notoriously weak as it is hollow with a magnet inside it. torque is only 15 nm or 11 ft/lbs. Any chance it has broken into two pieces and somehow hung up ? From your post #10 I suspect that the portion with the thread is what is keeping the oil in whilst the head is spinning and caught up?

Yes ,I did wonder if its broken in two as well but I wont know until I get it out. Im leaving it in there until I can get someone to repair the thread as well so I can still move it around,hopefully monday.
It didnt feel tight as I undone the bolt,15nm would be about all it had.
I cant understand why it has such a substantial filler plug and a weak as piss drain plug.

The first time I tried to change my oil in the diff the bolt broke taking it out, it did the same thing yours seems to be doing. Well I took the diff out of the bike and took it apart to get the bolt out and put a new one in. Only after doing this did I discover you cannot take this apart. That was 16000 thousand miles ago with no apparent problems. If you decide you have to do this send me a PM and I will talk you thru the job, I only recommend this as a last resort. By the way, I replaced the bolt with a regular bolt not original magnet.

Im warming to this theory on the bolt breaking,thanks for telling me this.
I think Ill be using a regular bolt to replace it.

Ok ,I left the bike at the dealer(JCS) today and it turned out to be the thread inside the diff was stripped. They removed the diff,opened it up and got at it from the inside.
I dont know exactly how long they spent on it but it looks about 2 to 2 1/2 hours by the price,including fitting some rear brake pads ,which is fine by me
Its still a mystery as to how it got stripped,theoretically it shouldnt have been touched since the factory. Most likely a stupid robot.

went to tighten plug on my 08 and just barely tweaked it a little and it broke. couldn't get the rest of the plug out so as a temporary fix i filled it with liquid steel. smoothed it out. looks good . will use a vacuum tube to drain next time.
