Darkside Review ???

Just forget I said a thing Phil, there is nobody that's been a member more than a year who doesn't know what I'm talking about, so no reason to convince anyone. Besides, he's no longer on the member list so there's no way to look up his posts.

Here I was just trying to help and that **** dead horse got up and walked again. :(

Talk is cheap, Kelly. I read the same posts as you do and I never saw IFT make a single lie, never saw him claim to owning 3 Rockets nor do I think that Art ran out to buy his R3 to satisfy you or anyone else but himself. He had been working closely with Bob Carpenter for some time before he bought his own R3, in conjunction with developing the best, most bulletproof, go-fast mods available for this bike anywhere, period. IFT alluded to working on or with multiple Rockets belonging to others, but, correct me if I'm wrong, he never claimed they were his own. He possesses a deep and detailed familiarity with the Rocket's motor and there are very, very few others who can rival his understanding of it.

Just because you believe something to be true, doesn't necessarily make it so. That's one of the beneficial aspects of forums like these. Ostensibly, it is a place to share and/or thrash out new ideas or differing viewpoints on all matters related to the R3. There are still plenty of arguable subjects, off-based opinions and disagreeable threads that come up here, but, so what? You don't like what's said, challenge it, run up your BS flag and have at it. Although there are thugs on all the MC forums I've ever participated in, Hell, many of them are operated and administered by actual criminals, we're all supposed to be adults, right?

Show me one thread where Art lied and I'll shut up. Show me one post that merited Pig9R's banning him! IMO, that was the result of a kangaroo court decision, pure and simple. Some people's skin here is waaaay too thin. What on God's green earth would merit anybody to make physical or even death threats against the man, simply because they couldn't handle being teased or held up to scrutiny?

I think that Art, with a bit of hindsight, has learned to get along with the animals in this type of zoo more civilly and I also think that not having his well informed view here is a real detriment to this site. He has concurrently been active over on the .com site and, although he is not exactly Mr Congeniality over there, he's still a member in good stead there and he has never fomented the kind of rancor that we saw occurring here. Are the admins and members over there that different from here? I don't think so, other than that they seem to be alot more tolerant.

I hope that our own admin, P9R is reading this. As a LEO, someone who should know a little bit about justice and administration of rules and regulations, I would appeal to him to reinstate Art. Certainly, his offenses were no greater or more egregious than those of some others on this site. Almost everyone deserves a second chance. Besides, it would be appropriate to allow IFT to defend himself against what appear to be outright fabrications and malicious innuendo. Although, Pig9R needn't be accountable for his actions as administrator, it would be better for this site, in fact, distinguishing in an important way, if he were.

Give it up Phil it is not about fair or they both would have been given the boot!!! Its about the good ole boy network thats all. Every tire engineer I talked to about **** himseld to find out people would even think of putting a car tire on a bike if they were so good you would see them in road races as then no one would have to worry about any tire changes. Of course I only taked to Perreli, Bridgestone, and Avon but what would they know they make tires for cars and bikes.
Its just a **** shame this site lost so much knowledge but then at least you can get the benifits on other sites. days go by on this site with no post changing so it has less to offer then others. Its just two bad a few people ruined it for all the other's
True IMFASTTO needs to work on his communication skills but that does not take away his years of knowledge. To bad they have been taken away from this site.
but hey any R3T guys out there want some information on making horse power on their bikes well the other site has a good thread.

The first Stage 1 R3T

I've not been on this (or the other) forum long enough to buy into discussion about any individual member. Only will say that I've not encountered anyone on here, past or present, who's posts I won't read because of who they are.

One thing I would say is that I enjoy a bit of controvercy and it is the frank and sometimes heated discussion that makes these sites worthwhile and even entertaining. I do like the sound of a cage starting to rattle...........

If everyone was falling over themselves to only say things they knew everyone else would agree with with, then what would be the point? May as well just consult the workshop manual. The disappointing thing is when disagreement about facts or differences of opinion result in personal attacks and threats. It should be fine to say that something is a stupid idea without the need to say the proponent is also stupid. Chest beating is fine too - although we did recently see some of that on another thread that really wasn't necessary. However, it's the vast array of opinions and experimentation and the sharing of experiences that drives the innnovations that gives us ideas and pleasure from our "mistresses". I hope we don't loose that.

It's up to all members to behave themselves and there will always be those that seem unable to do that. By definition it takes at least 2 for a discussion to degenerate. A person spouting off crap to themselves would soon get sick of it.

One more thing. Those complaining that nothing new or interesting gets posted here; POST SOMETHING NEW AND INTERESTING. ;)

You guys should really consider starting your own fan club. :p

Personly I left this site before because his crap attitude kept interupting good discusions he talks to everyone like **** so if he is nice guy as you said maybe you should give him a slap around the head when he spout of and even if he has good techicnal skills he has crap comunication skills I was relieved to hear he was banned here ( I only came back because Canberra R3b PM'd me because he like me respects Peter T's writing skills and knew I might like to help him) and might come back, over at the other site most of us have taken a different attitude we just bait him and then laugh and ignor his ravings unless he is not talking **** and yes he does lie just try the outragous claims of tire mileages he should just stick to engine Mods were he does appear to know what he is talking about, please Phill don't become another ImF&#*^$to

May I please hear more about darkside brands, sizes and experiences.:(
I need a new tire!!!!!!!!!!
I can't give a review yet but I can say what I've decided on and why.
I had a Goodyear Eagle F1 245/50 ZR16 waiting in the wings for the 2nd Metzler to wear out (was in a bind just before a trip to Canada and had to slap another turd on quick :D), but changed my mind over time. I thought I wanted "the FAT look" until I listened to all the comments, looked at the photo's and weighed the facts. The Eagle sure looks good, I don't think there's a better "looking" tire than the F1. But besides the width, it's awfully square. It's got a very flat contact area and the edges are really sharp, probably holds the shape due to good design and quality materials. But rounder is better, and a wide, square tire didn't make sense to me after thinking it over and listening to experienced Darksiders.

I decided to go with the Toyo Proxes TR1 225/55 ZR16 instead. The guys all seem to be in agreement that the 225/55 narrower tire is easier to handle. And since it will be my first CT, I should go conservative and make "handling ease" a priority. So I looked at as many photo's as I could, both mounted and un-mounted to compare the shapes. Some tires are flatter and some are rounder with less pronounced edges than others. My thinking was that a tire with a "rounder" shape would be easier to steer and a "flatter" profile would likely steer ME. The Toyo looked to have the shape I had in mind, and several guys had really good things to say about how it felt on their bikes.

There's a couple thousand miles still left on the Metzler, and I need to get my money's worth out of it. So the Toyo won't be going on the bike until mid spring depending on how long it lasts, I'm really excited about getting rid of it.

So that's my current "best guess", I'm sure I'll have lots to say once it's mounted ;).

Nolton do you have any in mind? It's interesting to hear what others think is a good choice and why.

Nolton,

just my opinion based on discussions and posts on this and the other site.

225/55 seems to be the best fit. It is also the closest to the stock tire size without being smaller in diameter. 235's and 245's are just too **** big.

Brands:

Good reviews on Goodyear Eagle F1, Toyo Proxes TR1 and Riken Raptor ZR. It seems the most used is the Riken with the Toyo close behind.

Not so good reviews on the Cooper Zeon. Oddly enough, the Cooper advertises that it has a "rounded" profile. Unfortunately, this led to a loss in stability based on a couple of users.

Avoid brands with a thick (> 3/4 inch) continuous center rib. This seems to follow road irregularities. The Riken has a small center rib and I don't notice any issues. The Goodyear and Toyo do not have the center rib.

go to www.tiresavings.com and search on 225/55/16 and you will get a good list to pick from including pictures.

Hope that helps.

Just trying to go by experienced opinions. Toyo looks good but Riken seems to be the favorite. I'm not concerned about looks, I just want the tread pattern for moving water and a solid tire that will not give me control issues. Price, what ever works and will last!!!!!!!
I think I found a private mechanic that will mount and balance it, but he is a die hard HD man and since I am the only R3 in the area, it just may get fun rolling up to his shop. Flash, is what he goes by. If this man is respectable, I think I should post a map of his shop for future passers by. I dont think Louisiana has many R3's and there is only one dealer, New Orleans. Has anyone tried to start a thread on reputable shops for quality service?
It could prove useful for someone traveling and in need. There should be enough of us to provide coast to coast recommendations.
