Darkside Review ???

So, from what I have read, many are going with the Rikon Raptor on the back and Avon Cobra on the front. Is that a fair assessment?
Not sure if going with the dark side will affect my warranty but its about time for a rear tire and I'm just trying to figure out what works for most Dark Siders.
If DS does affect the warranty guess I will have to go Avon, for now.
Please offer any opinions on DS brands and sizes.

Hellfire, My front Metz is wearing OK, but the back is plenty cupped, and I get weird sounds when I roll into corners now. Well, before snow covered the roads. What pressure do you keep in the Cobras? Recommended pressures?

Yes recommended air pressure for now while I'm running the cobra on the front and (barf) Metzler on the rear.:p
Before I replaced each original Metz, they were terribly cupped as well. Since I had them balanced, the dealer blamed it on the windscreen. I blame it on the tires. They didn't cup in the center, just on each side.

Nolton, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act specifically prohibits the denial of warranty claims based on a legal modification that you have made to your product. Going darkside will not affect your warranty.

Guess I need to decide which tire to use. I wonder if that would also cover the GIPro w/atre? I still have a year on the warranty and dont want to screw it up.

Tdragger, thank you very much. Legal info fascinates me. Consumer law, employee law, just dont want to be a lawyer.;)

I really don't feel like I'm being picked on or poked at, HF. Besides, we all know how touchy some folks get on this subject...;)

I did run my Toyo at higher pressures and did not like how it felt,... as if the tire was steering me, at times, especially when passing or making lane changes on the superslab.

There are definitely some traction issues with the MT, so I wouldn't be upset or unduly surprised if my safety concerns were refuted by virtue of a qualified evaluation. I have had to learn the different parameters of the safety envelope for both types of rear tire, nonetheless. To this point, those concerns have not been allayed and until they are, I have decided to stick with a rounded rear tire.

I've said this 'til I'm blue in the face; It is a matter of personal choice how and with what one chooses to customize and festoon their ride. Whatever floats your boat. no one has to please me, but me. However, it is simply foolish to dismiss the issue of safety when there is a lack of solid, empirical evidence to support one side over the other. If there ever is any exhaustive, sound and unbiased research done on this subject, I would guess that the findings will point to pluses and minuses to both camps' views, based on a rider's habits and riding styles. For instance - If I were a more sedate, less aggressive rider, I would probably still be using the car tire. i had absolutely zero issues with riding the darkside on both of my VTX 1800s.

Hellfire, although you and Art (OK, most people and IMFASTOO:D) were far from being kissin' cousins, he is one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever met when it comes to motorcycles. His opinions, which are based on a vast bank of experience in the field, should not be taken lightly, regardless of his hamfisted online personality. His ban from this site is, IMO, a farce. Then again, even I grew tired of his constant badgering and baiting. On a personal, face-to-face level, he's good people and lots of fun to ride with.

He was definitely an excellent fabricator ... he made everything up!
Spewing information doesn't make you "knowledgeable" unless it's true, I'm sure one-on-one he might seem different. But I surmise that's because most people don't carry around a fact checking device. When you post information in writing it gives people the time and opportunity to verify the info. Someone is always there (especially here with R3 experts and experienced riders) to correct you when there is an error, or say "you're full of ****" when there's a blatant lie. And he got caught in alot of lies, the good one was when we figured out that he never even owned a Rocket at all, that was a good one. So to make up for getting busted with that, he went out and bought three?!? right.
I only brought him up because he was always so negative about Darksiders and brought alot of criticism on himself that he wasn't very good at dealing with. That made him seem mean ... I didn't want you to go there. Sorry.

Anyway, is he just banned from posting?, 'cause I see him here occasionally.

Talk is cheap, Kelly. I read the same posts as you do and I never saw IFT make a single lie, never saw him claim to owning 3 Rockets nor do I think that Art ran out to buy his R3 to satisfy you or anyone else but himself. He had been working closely with Bob Carpenter for some time before he bought his own R3, in conjunction with developing the best, most bulletproof, go-fast mods available for this bike anywhere, period. IFT alluded to working on or with multiple Rockets belonging to others, but, correct me if I'm wrong, he never claimed they were his own. He possesses a deep and detailed familiarity with the Rocket's motor and there are very, very few others who can rival his understanding of it.

Just because you believe something to be true, doesn't necessarily make it so. That's one of the beneficial aspects of forums like these. Ostensibly, it is a place to share and/or thrash out new ideas or differing viewpoints on all matters related to the R3. There are still plenty of arguable subjects, off-based opinions and disagreeable threads that come up here, but, so what? You don't like what's said, challenge it, run up your BS flag and have at it. Although there are thugs on all the MC forums I've ever participated in, Hell, many of them are operated and administered by actual criminals, we're all supposed to be adults, right?

Show me one thread where Art lied and I'll shut up. Show me one post that merited Pig9R's banning him! IMO, that was the result of a kangaroo court decision, pure and simple. Some people's skin here is waaaay too thin. What on God's green earth would merit anybody to make physical or even death threats against the man, simply because they couldn't handle being teased or held up to scrutiny?

I think that Art, with a bit of hindsight, has learned to get along with the animals in this type of zoo more civilly and I also think that not having his well informed view here is a real detriment to this site. He has concurrently been active over on the .com site and, although he is not exactly Mr Congeniality over there, he's still a member in good stead there and he has never fomented the kind of rancor that we saw occurring here. Are the admins and members over there that different from here? I don't think so, other than that they seem to be alot more tolerant.

I hope that our own admin, P9R is reading this. As a LEO, someone who should know a little bit about justice and administration of rules and regulations, I would appeal to him to reinstate Art. Certainly, his offenses were no greater or more egregious than those of some others on this site. Almost everyone deserves a second chance. Besides, it would be appropriate to allow IFT to defend himself against what appear to be outright fabrications and malicious innuendo. Although, Pig9R needn't be accountable for his actions as administrator, it would be better for this site, in fact, distinguishing in an important way, if he were.
