it does!!
I had to replace the metzeler rear due to a puncture and I mounted an Avon cobra , the handling seem easier and flicking the bike side to side is much easier. however the CT controversy is moot to me as my insurance will be void if I mount a CT
in canada an avon + mounting rn in the $450.00 ........highway robbery IMO....... but we have no choice.
I had the cobra mounted on the front today, $298.99 installed. First thing I noticed (other than the huge dent in the fender, I'll get to that story in a moment) was the "flicking" thing Duke mentioned. It certainly does feel like it's going to fall right over when you corner it at low to medium speeds. It (the front tire) really likes to turn quicker than I was used to with the Metz, wonder why it does that.

ANYWAY ... you will love the story about the dented front fender, I'm so pissed off that I can't bring myself to giggle about it yet. I took it in to the local Yamaha/Suzuki/Victory/Honda etc. etc. bike superstore to wait while they changed the front tire. I politely warned them that it wasn't a Hardley, nor was it still stock, and suggested that they be careful should they decide to test ride it after the install. I mentioned that it no longer had the power reduction in 1st gear and might "suprise" a tech with it's zip from a start. Of course they politely blew me off with the old "we ride faster bikes than yours all the time" lines, and that they wouldn't have a problem taming it. When it was finished the tech rode it out the door and onto the divided four lane road. I followed him out the door of the waiting area and listened for him to go by. She sounded good, 1st time I'd heard it from a distance since the mods were completed. I heard him stop at the light about a half block from the store and a short time later heard him jump on it pretty hard. But it only roared for a split second and then "idle". I thought to myself "scared him good I'll bet" and went in to pay the bill. When I came out to leave I looked the bike over and wiped off the standard finger prints we expect after service. Then I saw it !! ... the top of the fender was creased straight across between the forks! ****! The guy had stood it straight up leaving the stop light and in a panic mashed the brake. It must have slammed down so hard that the leather "tool-bag" I have straped under the horn got mashed by the fender and dented it. The fork seals left a clean mark in the dust about 1" from the bottom of the tubes they were compressed so far. After going through the "are you sure it wasn't like that before?" bull****, they agreed to fix it. $317.89 for a pre-painted, ready to install replacement from Triumph .... ****it, I warned them. They just didn't listen and had no respect for a tweeked cruiser, .... well they do now!

Surely you guys have people with low overhead selling accessories and doing basic motorycle maintenance? We have two in my area. The last avon mounted on my R3T was $200.
I noticed that the prices vary quite a bit depending on if the Avon is a Cobra and what speed rating you choose. The Avon AV71-150/80R17 was $229.99 plus $63 for mounting/balancing/denting. That was one of the better prices I found, and they had it in a couple days with no shipping charges.

The Cobra is only available as an H rated tire. Remember, we're in the Touring forum here.

Last set I bought I priced at SWMOTOTIRE and my dealer almost matched the price and included mounting. Too bad that dealer is now out of business. Something tells me the next set will cost me a bit more.

Real pisser about your fender. Glad they're covering the cost without a hassle.

Yeah, Hellfire, I just glad it didn't come out worse and was only the fender. That would have ticked me off, they are supposed to ride the bike after a tire install to make sure there are no problems...not create problems. Reminds me of when I bought my new (first car I sold while a car salesman er...I mean associate at World Ford...and it was to me) 2004 40th Anniversary Special Edition Mustang GT. They were preping it in the back and the guys doing the "clean up" on it had my new stereo turned all the way up playing Rap crap on it (it could have been rock or country or classical for all I cared) and blew out one of the speakers it was so loud...I didn't appreciate that at all as it is not "their" car.

Anyway, hopefully the new fender will come in soon and that "tire tech" learned a valuable lesson.

Thanks for the report. I too had the General Altimax 205/60 on my R3T. All the different pressures didn't make for a good ride. And the wobble was an ongoing problem. Balanced, re-balanced..... didn't change anything.

I finally gave up after 5k miles. I got the Metzelers under the warranty replacement.

They've held up decently. I got about 11k out of the first set. I'm on the second set now. 8k and counting......

Wobbling

YES running car tires because there inexpensive makes no sense and then put up with evil handling wobbling etc HEY if you cant afford real tires dont ride your also endangering other peaple on the road;)

my previous post was deleted by me because it was inappropriate.

I am most offended by the insinuation that I am endangering other people on the road because I'm using a c/t.

Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?

Art and his company specializes in hyper-power increases to otherwise already powerful motorcycles and then advocates taking them out onto the public roads for stunts and "racing".

Excuse me, *******, but that's far more irresponsible to the public than me putt'n around on my c/t.

I'd appreciate it, Art, if you would look in the mirror at your own actions before flinging that kind of accusation at others.

Just stop it, stop acting like my mother already. We get it, you don't like car tires. Can you allow others to discuss it? You drag out that same dead dog and beat it like a drum everytime someone mentions car tires, please let it R.I.P. .

tdragger, I didn't think it out of line for the situation ;).

HEY VERY GOOD REPORT I woud think you could find a MC tire that size for a better price WHAT are you doing to put all those miles on your bike ???
I was getting a Metz that retailed for $285., paid $200. for it, then with mounting, balancing, and tax, just over $300. out the door. The AltiMax CT used is about $100. and should last a lot longer. I know someone with 10,000 miles on the tire and it still looks like new. I dyno at 133HP / 163Lb/Ft at the rear wheel, so a good tire is necessary. "What are you doing to put all those miles on your bike?" I ride it! Most of the bikes life I averaged 55hrs+/week working, and fly out of town on business occassionally, or there would be many more miles. Ridin comforts my soul and sets me free! Ride it like ya stole it, or stay on the porch. B Cool
