Alright you darksiders and those thinking about it. This is my opinion of the darkside. After 50,000 miles on my RIIIT (MANY Metz Marathons), I went to a General Alti 205/60-16. Started with 42lbs pressure, and downed it to 30lbs. Ride is comfortable, and we went on a 800 mile trip with no problems.
Curves take a little getting used to, but not bad for experienced riders. Friday nite on I-65, between 90 and 100mph, going into a curve, it started to wobble, not adjusting my throttle, the wobble was getting worse quickly, so I let off a little and regained control. My buddy on a ZX14 saw the wobble and backed off. He could see the tire making the transition and the sidewall folding. The tire had gotten slightly below 30lbs, and at speed with those forces on it, it can be very dangerous. At 38lbs the ride isn't as good, but handling is much better, although not great. Car tires make more noise, that screechin sound leavin a stop sign surprises me occasionally, and even though I chose the "V" rated tire that is softer than the "H", it still isn't as sticky as a motorsickle tire. If I had a lot of extra money, I'd ride on the Metz, but $3??.00 every 2 - 2.5 months for a rear tire. With 3000 miles on this tire now, I'm stayin on the "DARKSIDE"!

Thanks for posting your experience. While I don't put on the miles you do, 18K after two years, I think I'll continue to pay the extra for the MC tire.

In fact, after the Metz wears out I think I'll go back to the Avon Cobra. The Metz seems to be getting more mileage than the Avon, but the Avon handled better.

it does!!
I had to replace the metzeler rear due to a puncture and I mounted an Avon cobra , the handling seem easier and flicking the bike side to side is much easier. however the CT controversy is moot to me as my insurance will be void if I mount a CT
in canada an avon + mounting rn in the $450.00 ........highway robbery IMO....... but we have no choice.

Surely you guys have people with low overhead selling accessories and doing basic motorycle maintenance? We have two in my area. The last avon mounted on my R3T was $200.

Stick,
certainly not trying to influence your decision in any way.
I'd ride what I thought was the safest tire I could afford.
That "wobble" you memtioned would worry me.
I run a Rikon Raptor 225 and have never expierenced that problem.
Maybe you should look at another type/brand of tire before giving up on car tires.
Lots of guys have very good luck with them.
Never heard of the one you were running, so can't say,
either pro or con on it.
If that wobble would have happened to me,
I'd be leary too.
Good luck.

I have not found any people with low overheads in my neck of the woods
I checked prices from the BIG triumph dealer down to the small independant bike shop ,
results $450.bucks regardless .
to think that one could have it done for half price south of the border makes me cringe..
I "ll have to time my next visit south to match a tire replacement

HEY VERY GOOD REPORT I woud think you could find a MC tire that size for a better price WHAT are you doing to put all those miles on your bike ???
