Custom Pipes are In!

Yep Hanso. They'd be yours I saw at the Superbikes a few weeks back.
Very impessive pipes (and bike), and a great finish on them also.
Have seen the others on .com as well, but not in the flesh, and Mitch's set as well, but too far away to go and look at up close and personal.

Only so much you can glean from a photo tho, especially the heat sheilds, which was my point about none being near me.
Bring on September eh. Will be a lotta looking goin on then.


As much as anything tho, I'm looking at other pipes from a build perspective as mine are going to be built in the next few months and I want to get it right the first time.

And no, I'm not stealing anyones designs. Their knowledge, yeah, bloody oath, but there's only 2 ways to learn this art and that's trial and error, or from others experiences. but what I've got planned is totally different to anything I've seen done by anyone else yet so I'm not stealing ideas.

are you still thinking of going the way we talked about ..you cut an shut peg rail... reckon that would look awesome

Can't remember which way we discussed TBH.
Forward on the motor as 3 pipes then around the front to a collector then back along the bottom edge as a single pipe with custom peg rails is what I'm thinking.
Was thinking about making my own muffler as well but decided against it for now.
Probably use a Supertrapp.

thats the one , you might remember I sugested cutting out the front part of peg rail just bring a plate back along engine then straight out to just in front of peg that will free up a lot of space up front

desertwOlf, I'd sure like to see a picture of you riding your bike with that unusual setup you have!

How can you be comfortable with those clubman cafe-style handlebars with floorboards and highway pegs? Either you are one heck of a contortionist or you have a very different body type.

Have you gotten a dyno pull done with those pipes yet?

Its comfortable enough. 6'1 300#.. might switch to a set of Biltwell Zeds, not sure yet. As for a dyno run... it is going to cost $500.00 - $600.00 to get her run and mapped out on the dyno. Guy says 500 minimum with stock ECU. I simply don't have it right now after spending $2200 on a sick dog at the vet and my own medical crap. It looks like I probably won't be riding her before I can get a dyno run because I can't get a decent tune at all. I don't anticipate being able to afford that until close to next winter. She'll remain shut up in the garage until then, and I'll wish I could be riding. Sorry I can't get a dyno sheet to share.

As to the folks saying they need reinforcing - I have had other bikes with pipes much the same with THOUSANDS of miles without cracking or breaking - why should these be any different? They don't weigh much at all, and I highly doubt they are going to break off at the head or break the studs.

They DO have backpressure. I have them baffled with a set of BCT style baffles. They add backpressure, and make the sound a lot deeper in person than it is in the video. Also, it is correct - these pipes weren't made to be "best performance" but they will certainly not rob the bike of much as they are not really open drag pipes.

Third - as to the heat. They REALLY don't get that hot, especially now they're wrapped. However, I think I soak some of the heat up w/ my cowboy boots .. never really noticed it the few times I took her out for a test ride.

Don't give **** about the Nay Sayers I think they look Trick, did you try cut back the F tables and even if it does run a little rich better that than lean, also you say sooty but was after decent run or just running in garage/Shed

Have you still got your original pipes???
Might not be what you wanted but if you stick them back on at least you can still ride for this summer.

use what ever suits you and the look you want cobba.. there are only so many ways to route the tubes.. feel free to look over any of my designs and if you have questions feel free to ask

Be a bit carefull what you do up around the front of the peg rails there's not much ground clearence up there when your having a crack. It would be a shame to make a nice set of headers and then wear a hole in them or worse put it down the road.

It was sooty after my first test run, I did as you suggested and cut back on the F tables. Going to take her out again on Thursday when I am off and run her through a full tank of gas and pull the plugs and see where I stand from there.
