Custom Header

I'm having a custom header made by these guys:

I had to send them my stock headpipe for mock up. It's going to be a 304 stainless steel equal length header that will pick up my current staintune cat bypass and pipes. I must say I'm missing not being able to ride the R3!!! I'll keep you guys posted with the results to include pictures when I get my custom header.

Nice teaser, now give us some details. How much bigger are you going than stock? When you get the header back, how are going to tune the bike. You know details and pics???

It's going to be the same size tubes but with a nice 3 to one collector for better flow. I have to use the same size tubes to pick up my staintune exhaust. I have a Dobeck tuner, I going to add a wide band air/fuel ratio sensor and gauge and tune it myself for real world load conditions. I may do a evaluation dyno run just to see the numbers.

See attached stock exhaust headpipe, number 2 and 3 cylinders have terrible flow.

If you guys are interested, I'll see if they are going to keep the fabrication fixture from my custom header.

I'll post pictures both on and off the bike when I receive the custom header .

How much is the header costing? They'd be nuts not to keep the fixture.

They would be nuts to not enlarge the size of the pipe like Jardine has done to allow more air flow. Now this is just me, but if it were me and I was going to drop this kind of coin just to improve the flow of 2 of the factory tubes would not be money very well spent.
If I were having a custom header built, it would be to increase as much air flow thru the engine as possable and then have them build me a custom can that could be tuned. Now you are increasing the air and you would have the ability to start adding more fuel thus increasing H/P. But that is just me. I would be very surprised that you will see much of an H/P increase just by cleaning up the air flow on these 2 cylinders that aren't flowing well from the factory. But hay, that's just me typing out loud.

I'm going with the theory that larger diameter exhaust will make more peak HP but will loose low and mid range torque. Torque is what the R3 is all about. Time will tell.

Primary and collector diameter is based on flow/output requirements.
Tuned lengths are based on rpm requirement for peak torque, and valve events.

Please elaborate.
Wouldn't either have an effect on flow/back pressure, therefore torque?
Understandably different, but effect none the less?

The standard header looks innefficient. Anyone can see that. But just how inefficient is it? Can anyone quantify the precise difference between standard, (say) Jardine and equal length. I get that the more efficiently you remove the gases, the more you can pump in but how much power/efficiency gain can you get from changing the header, all other things being equal?
