Anybody know about how far out A cruise sys is for the R3T?

That's a little cryptic but we'll try.

You can adapt an Audiovox CSS100 cruise control unit to the R3 but you'll need an auxilliary vacuum pump to provide enough stable vacuum to successfuly modulate the servo. I have one sitting here in the shop. I was, at one time, going to install it but I never did.

If by 'far out' you are referring to price, the Audiovox unit is around 100 bucks and a vacuum pump could be as much depending on what and where you get it at. A compatible pump would be one that operates the front 4wd engagement system on a Ford Superduty pickup. The vacuum pump has to be compact and switchable and the Ford pump is. Best place to get the Ford pump would be a boneyard. You'll have to modify the harness or get both the male and the female Mollex plugs and as much of the harness as possible.

I think he is asking about when Triumph will be coming out with a factory cruise-control for the R3T. Someone else is also looking at the Dakota Digital electronic cruise system that runs about $250. Waiting to hear from him.

The CSS unit has been successfully installed on a few R3's already. I downloaded the complete instruction sheet from another website about a year ago. The big problem is that the R3 engine can't maintain enough vacuum to properly modulate the servo unit under all conditions, thus the auxilliary vacuum pump is needed.

The CSS unit is completely hidden from view. The servo unit fits handily behind the left tin with the actuator cable routed along the frame tube and exiting right in front of the Bear Claw. The CSS unit picks up it's speed signal from the coil trigger and interprets it as ground speed. The problem arises with the vacuum pump. It has to be compact as there is precious little room under the tank or seat to mount a pump. The Ford SuperDuty pump is compact and self regulating, that is, internally switching.

I may just install the unit this winter and take off my Flipmeisters 50 cent throttle lock.

Yeah I geuss I could have have been a bit more specific, The question should have been when is Triumph or someone comming out with a (bolt on) cruise control system for the R3T. I no Triumph is soposed to be makeing one but I dont know if its for the 09's or can you order it for the 08 also.

The CSS unit is 'bolt on'.

I believe you mean 'plug and play' which the CSS unit isn't.

Sadly, we live in a 'plug and play' society. The bright spot is there are a certain number of folks out there that still ascribe to 'bolt on'.

I, myself belong to the 'bolt on, weld on or machine on' segment.

Hey Flip you would'nt happen to have the url to the CSS site would ya?

It's not a site per se'.

I gleaned the install instructions from another site (not here and not .com). If you have a FAX number I can send you the instructions. As fas as a CSS unit, Google Audiovox cruise control or check FleaBay. I don't have the instructions on the computer, just a copy I made sometime ago. Tomo and I danced around about the unit over a year ago and it's just sitting on my shelf in the shop right now. I know it works. I talked to the guy that installed one on his R3 but he's dropped through the cracks of society..........Like I almost do, everyday.

If you want to get a hold of me off site, just click on either my banner ad in the upper right corner of the screen or my signature line. My e-mail addy is on site as is my land line.

on my 1400 mile loop to washington and back i used an old tiger trick. that is i got a fat o-ring and used it as a friction cruise control. it worked ok but the return spring on the r3 is more stout than the one on my tiger. since then i have purchased a throttlemister. it is a bolt on and is simple to use.

.......You got that trick right off the KLR forum. Betch you used a yellow CAT 'O' ring too.

If you do a search on this site for Flipmeister 50 cent throttle lock, you find the thread plus there are pictures in my photo album to go a step farther than an 'O' ring and get basically the same mactuation and de-actuation as the Throttlemeister for 50 cents and 15 minutes of your time......I put one on the KLR too.
