Clutch Question During Break-in

I don't think anyone thinks there's a specific oil needed for breaking in. It's about changing the oil after the motor breaks in. Parts are tight and not well lubed coming from a factory. The new use results in a lot of grinding and friction with particles carried away in the lubrication. This means you need to change the oil used during break in.

"(different from break in oil I believe) caused the transmission to behave differently."

You are correct about the importance of the first oil and filter change.

Unless they have changed things, the oil in the Rocket when it is new is dinosaur oil. When it is changed to full synth at the first change there are definite improvements.

Yep a semi synthetic for the first 500 miles then the full synthetic. At least that is how it was done in the old Rocket days.

I understand the quoted idea that Dino oil should not be changed to synthetic until after break in and I have adhered to that, in fact not normally going to a full synthetic like Amsoil, until maybe the 3rd oil change. However, a few bikes and many foreign (Non US) cars are being shipped with full synthetics from the factory. To this day, after 79 motorcycles and 53 years of riding, I've never seen a can of oil that is labeled: "Break-in oil."-----Until now: Go to Google and type in; "automotive break in oil." I'm very surprised that there are products out there for this purpose but I haven't heard of any vehicle manufacturer actually using the products.
