For Mike M, the comment on the more mpg due to HP was not a scientific one but only an observation as due to the "less power" on the R3T you are probably not doing the jack rabbit starts as much and or you are not accelerating as fast as you would/could with the standard or classic versions of the R3. Since you are probably riding it (the R3T) in a more "casual" manner I would assume that your overall mpg would be consistently higher than on the other R3 versions.

When I got the mileage I mentioned during the Nashville run I let the tank get pretty much to empty, but again I was doing between 80-90 mph. The speed was pretty steady and obviously once on the superslab there was not much stop and go riding as in the city.

Having said that my normal riding around town with some ocassional highway riding thrown in I get between 32 and 38.5 mpg.

I'd like a little more oomph, not because I need but because I WANT it! I really like dusting the Road King's and such on the on-ramps (up to the legal posted limit, of course)!

I still can't make up my mind between the TOR's or the D & D's. I'm waiting for somebody to post some sound clips on youtube or somewhere!

This is the only one I found on utube with the D&D's. This clip is what made my decision to buy D&D's final.

My manual says the tank holds 5.9 gallons, I just double checked to be sure.
The low fuel indicator light comes on when there are 1.32 gallons left in the tank.
I think it's the website that's wrong, it says 4.9 gallons. Triumph Motorcycles - Rocket III Touring
But like I said, the owners manual says 5.9.

1.32 gallons left when the light comes on?! how did you get it to work so well? My 08's low fuel light was coming on at 1/2 a tank until the dealer "repaired" it, now it comes on after using about 4.2 gallons. That's still really annoying when theres over 2 gallons left. The fuel light is the ONLY thing I don't like about the bike. I plan to tinker with it myself this spring to see if I can get it down to about a gallon.

Thats about the same mileage I get. I've never gotten more than 36 mpg for some reason.

So many Road King's, so little time.

p.s. I don't think I've ever seen as much contraversy over a spec as there seems to be with the R3T tank size. lol

It is the same as sex, you will not know your true potential until you go ball deep...

The light comes on you have 30+ miles left, the countdown hits 0 miles you can still go another 30+ miles.

It seems the more you run her down to 0miles on the countdown the more accurate the display gets, just my observation.

Just trying get educated here, but where did you guys hear/read that there's over a gallon left in the tank when the light comes on. If that's correct, then I guess I can buy it having a 5.9 gallon tank. Again, I assumed the 4.9 figure was a typo when I read it, thinking there's no way that massive tank only holds 4.9, but when I ran my hand under it and felt how it curved up and over the engine and then did the math knowing that the light comes on at around 35 to 40 miles to go, I was convinced 4.9 was correct. Obviously, I can't crawl in the tank and check it out for myself (well, actually at a meger 145 lbs, I might can).

I don't care one way or the other. Like I said, my butt will never see 200 miles without a stop. I guess it's too late to change my ways after many years of riding 100-150 miles between stops on 5 gallon patato patato bikes. lol

So is there some difference between the R2 and others as far as the low fuel light? Seems everyone I've talked to around here and at the dealer have issues with the low fuel light coming on at half tank or worse. Like I said earlier, they tried to fix it by bending the float rod but that only helped a little. To hear you guys with R3T's talk about it, you not only don't have that problem but don't know what were talking about. I know the tanks look different and all, but I thought they might have the same fuel set up inside. Maybe thats the problem, they DO have the same set up and it works better in the smaller R3T tank. Now I know I'll have to take it apart myself just to satisfy my curiosity.

I have a ZX-14 and still want the R3T...

I say again, I don't think more power is necessary on the r3t or any cruiser/tourer for that matter. If you truly need more power/speed why in the world would you buy a bike with bags that weighs dam near 800lb in the first place The ZX14 or the Busa come to mind if that's your cup of beer.

The Cruiser/Tourer is all about the Journey not the destination

I love my 2007 ZX-14 and it's 165 HP, but I still want to get the RT3. I like riding the sportbike but also want to ride a cruiser that I can take on long trips. Frankly, I wasn't as interested in the R3 until they came out with the Touring model.

I here ya, My last 3 bike were GIXXER's and I will always love the quickness and the handeling of Sport Bikes. But I appreciate both types of michenes for what they are and modifying one to make it behave like the other is ...well lets just say that logic is lost on me

Handling made the difference for me

The day I bought my R3T, I had ridden a Harley Ultra and Roadking and to be honest the feel hadn't changed much since the one I had in 95'. I then rode a Boss Hoss which made my pecker fell bigger but it still wasn't the bike for me, especially for that price. Later on it was the Goldwing which I intended to buy until I sat on it realizing they had moved the riders position forward to give the passenger more room and that was bad for me with such long legs. Then came the R3T and I was in heaven. I stayed gone over an hour and purchased the one I rode. When I get the risers installed it will be perfect as I do detect some fatique in my neck after 4 hours of riding. If you are tall, big person, I don't see how you could like anything else but the touring model. This is the first bike I haven't put highway pegs on the crash bars.
