Can not believe the new 2008 Turing Rocket

?????. Don't understand......The new Classics still have the same power as the 2006 models. Even the "Touring", which has been detuned for smoother touring performance, can be brought back up to around 140, if you feel the need, so I'm not quite sure just what Triumph should be monitoring this site for.......

Pete.

Your statement says it better than I could have. I'd rather add to 140HP in lieu of getting back to 140HP.

So...the new classics are still 140HP?

Yes... only the R3T has been neutered... Ooops, I mean "tuned for torque".. :) The Standard and Classic are the same bike except for handlebars, floor boards, and paint.. maybe a few other accessories. Of course, a neutered R3T is still a force to be reckoned with and will still blow away most any other touring bike!.. :)

Well, I love my R3T, I checked the specs b4 I parted with my cash so I knew what I was getting, no ABS, no reverse, no twin headlights(thank god), etc, etc, etc. Simple, do your homework and buy the bike you want, I have not heard of a disappointed R3T owner yet so unless you own one it is ridiculous to put **** on it

Actually, being really pedantic, and showing my lack of a life, there's no such model as a Tourer.

There's a Rocket III, a Rocket III Classic and a Rocket III Touring. Someone can choose to add bags, sissybar and screen to the III or the III Classic, to make them more suitable for touring, but..............

Pete
Pedantic you say? The facts are: the 07 TourER have silver engines while all other 07s have black engines. 05's have silver, 06's have black, and the few 07 Tourers have silver; and all 08's have black engine. To my knowledge the 05's were not offered as Classics; the first year was 06. The factory paint schemes were also different. All model groups; Standard, Classic, Touring and now Touring for each year have been different. One might be able to look at the color scheme and OEM accoutrements, and know exactly what year and model it is. Neither the 07 Classic nor Standard came in the same color schemes as the Tourer. The Tourer was only marketed in the USA as the Tourer. Perhaps, in shorthand, the 07 Tourer rightfully deserves the R3T moniker and the Touring is the R3teetee :D

As for input into the creation of the TourING: I've long advocated longer skirts and horizontal twin exhaust. Though I doubt my comments, here on this forum in early 07, had any bearing. I'm sure the concept for the 08 Touring was in the works long before. It's a business model long practiced and especially advanced by Bill Gates. Don't put out the ultimate when built-in-obsolescence is so much more profitable. And oil as the only real energy source has long been disproven. But free wind and free solar puts the elites out of work:eek:
:soapbox: And since I've co opted the thread for a moment: Finance, Insurance, and Real estate (FIRE) are the fundamental foundation of today's US economy. And where are the indicators for these major sectors of Sovereignty? You tell me.

Yes I do like the overall concept of the Touring. I like it a lot, but I too wouldn't sacrifice the brute force of the Standard engine performance, over what I've heard of the Touring, now that I have a taste of what the FBG is capable of. I can only imagine a NOS equipped or SC/Turbo charged beast.

Perhaps a stocker Touring Captain will swap vessels for a ride with a Tourer Captain, at RAAIV in Maggie Valley?

HeR3tic,
All true, but you have taken the quote out of context. It was in response to people calling the Touring, "Tourer" with associated confusion on HP figures etc.

I should have said there "is currently" no model called a Tourer, rather than there "is" no model called a Tourer. You win though....you're far more pedantic :)

Ok...I have the R3Touring... My dad has a bike like yours, his is an 07. The dealership sold it to him as a R3 Classic Tourer.
Just did a google search and got this
2007 Triumph Rocket III Classic Tourer

So, if I'm not mistaken, you have a classic tourer and I have a touring....
So, for clarification, I have A R3T (Rocket 3 Touring) and you have a R3CT (Rocket 3 Classic Tourer), right?

Yours has the same basic design as the other R3's where the 2008 R3T has a different frame... well, everything is different except for the engine, mirrors and tail light...
Which is why we have had to differentiate the Touring bikes from the rest so as to save some confusion when talking about various things such as tire size, seating options, and various other modifications that are different.

Frankly, as long as Triumph keeps making the standard and the classic, I don't really see any need for those of you with those models to worry about what's going on with the touring model. The question I have, however, is what makes any of you think that someone into "touring" would give a rats ass about the difference between 110 hp and 140. Obviously, I can't answer that for the other R3T Captains, but I can answer from my perspective. I couldn't care less. In fact, I wouldn't care if the R3T had 75 hp or 80 hp, etc... It's of no importance to me as long as it scoots my rear end down the interstate at 75 or so and has enough power for me to easily pass (it does).

The bike is purpose built just like the other models. It simply has a different purpose and, from my perspective, it peforms it's purpose pretty well. As stated by others, however, supposedly you can re-tune the engine back to the higher hp if that'll get your knickers out of a bunch. I don't see a need to do that. I've said it in other threads. I'm not into to screwing with things. They either do what I want them to do or I don't buy them to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I'll add cosmetic or comfort items, but that's about it.

The only thing I find curious about the touring model is the smaller fuel tank. I understand the reason, however. It's styling. The touring model would look pretty goofy with same bottle whale looking tank that the others have, IMO. That said, it still has plenty of range at close to 200 miles per tank. Hell, I like to get off and stretch my legs for a minute after 100-150 miles anyway.

Anyhow, one thing is certain. I'd much rather be riding my R3T right now instead of posting about it to you lugnuts. :D

Rain, while needed, still sucks!:D

Bone stock R3 against a bone stock R3T with the smaller tank at the same highway speed, the R3 will be on the side of the road about 30-40 miles before the R3T

I know I have owned both...
