Buzzy's Revival: 1982 XS650SJ Heritage Special

Buzzy seems to be fitting into my life style. Not only does he carry my lunchbox to work, he can also carry three-weeks' supply of coffee K-cups too. (I do wish I could get a month's worth out of one of these boxes, but it only has 125 K-cups: no one makes a bigger box that I can find...)

Buzzy did grumble some as it was 34*F this morning when I took the frozen cover off of him. I said dude! You are only 39 years old, quit complaining...

I have decided to go with this old windshield from a XS650 forum member. It is only sitting on this bike for reference. He got it on a barn find that he has taken apart and won't be using it.

After much consideration, I have ordered the Tarozzi fork braces. They will arrive in a few days and I will post once they are on the bike.

Getting accustomed to any new bike is a learning curve for us all, or maybe just me.

It is below freezing this morning thus I expect Buzzy is not going to be happy with starting.

After a few tries though, he kicks to life and settles into a nice idle. I turn away to stow the cover and to my surprise, I hear a crash behind me. The kickstand has somehow given way to gravity and Buzzy fell upon his left side. (On a side note (see what I did there?) the bike dies when laying on its side after about 5 seconds...)

Luckily, I am able to lift said dead machine back to its upright state. Unluckily, I find the clutch lever is broken.

Back on the lucky side. Brahma said he would pull Buzzy's load today and I made it to work without further issue. Now, where to get a replacement lever?

@atomsplitter thanks for that. I didn't think to look on ebay. I ordered one from XS650.com. The part ordered is OEM and looks just like this one but is $3.00 less. Ebay shipping may have been faster though.

Happy to help. I've owned a number of the old XS 650s, in fact was my first bike. If ever you get bored in the winter, there's a chapter in my book on my first ride experience on the ole Yammie.
