Well now for starters yes I did enjoy the bigger granny screen on the last long trip ,but 95% of the time I like my fly screen so that makes me a part time granny screen wearer

I was wondering the same. Before buying my R3 I had factored the cost of a screen in to the budget. This is mainly because every bike I had previously owned had a full fairing, and the couple of rides I had enjoyed on un-faired bikes had me holding the grips with a death grip just to stop getting blown off the back.

… but then I took the Rocket for a test ride. I deliberately factored in a quick bit of Motorway in the test route. The outcome of this test was amazing; shattering my previous misconceptions about unfaired bikes. It was like the air parted (akin to Moses parting the sea) to let the a Rocket through. No air-buffeting at all. No need to cower behind the large bulbous headlights to get out of the vortex. I'm not sure if this is the general consensus with the Rocket or whether every bike/rider combination produces different results.

I returned from the test ride and made an offer on the bike before I had even dismounted. Happy to leave the pointy-end of the bike au-naturale.
 

Not sure how mine broke. One day I noticed it was angled wrong, grabbed it and bent it back into place - I thought the mounts must have got bend. I heard a snap but it seemed OK at the time. Only noticed it was actually broken when I was looking through some recent photos and it was croaked. Was easy to fix though.
 

Totally agree. The tank, twin lights and gauges work to keep a lot of wind off you. If you ride a Thunderbird, for example, there's much more wind hitting you. Not saying there's no wind, but it's way less than on most other bikes and besides, it's the way nature intended it (motorcycle riding) to be. A rider back rest does away with the death grip and I don't have to put up with the noise, buffeting, distortion, light reflections and ugliness of a screen. Anyway, I know others feel different but that's why I won't use one.
 

Snapping noises are never good unless its someone elses kneck . I glued mine last night "the horn cover not my kneck" and its all good now
 

I hate screens i dont care about their usefulness they just look crap. I do like the flyscreen though as it gives the bike a streetfighter look which is what i was after . Not concerned at all as to weather it works or not infact from the short ride i went on before i didnt really notice any difference it just keeps bugs off of the gauges lol
 
Im not really into large screens .ive only used it on the one trip .around here where I live I'd rather have the breeze flowing especially in the summer as the heat from the motor warms me up enough without further adding to the heat with the screen on .
 
I like my screen on long trips .. as Bruce says I'm old and enjoy the comfort it offers. Riding down the Stuart Highway from Darwin to Adelaide we encountered a plague of grasshoppers .. I mean thousands of the f#ckin things. They lasted for about 5 or 10 klms. I was the only one with a screen ..riding with another Rocket and a V-Rod, they got f#ckin smashed .. it was hilarious
