Bridgestone Exedra Max

I believe that it is considered pretty taboo by the industry other than for bikes set up that way stock from the factory. That said, I think that prudent and vigilant, experienced veterans, like Ken, can get away with it because they are very performance oriented and they know that proper maintenance and oversight goes along with that particular turf.

The roads overseas are supposedly paved with diamonds, especially in NZ and Oz, or so we've been led to believe, and that (coarser aggregate), more than anything else would account for the shorter tire lifespan, unless, that is, those blokes are actually as crazy as they seem!

Thanks Phil, I suppose my riding style(Gently Bently) is a governing factor why I have not noticed or had any problems all these years with mixing my tyres ,also I don't wait to see the belts on my tyres before replacing them, I will try a Radial Exedra max next time, surprisingly this has never been mentioned to me in a negative way when I have indicated this combo at the tyre retailers who are motor cycle dealers ,but have been lectured when casually mentioning the Darkside option

WELL you guys I usually get around 10,000 miles out of the METZ and 8 sec dragstrip runs at over 155mph SO I dont know what you guys do to kill them so fast

No track time, but mine gets ridden pretty regular in all sorts of applications...traffic, cruising, touring, twisties, straight, fast, slow, etc. Rear Metz gave up at 4,300 miles and was replaced with an Excedra Max. Front gave up at 6,100 miles. Actually, to be fair, I could have kept riding the front tire a bit longer, but it was cupped so bad that it made handling the bike difficult so I swapped it over to an Avon Cobra. When I bought the '09 recently the dealer did me a "favor" and put on two brand spanking new Metzler tires...I cringed when he told me.

My '11 only had 2800 miles on the OEM tires when I picked it up. The tires grip like sh*t!
I don't know if the age has anything to do with it; but I've leaned it over to the boards a few times and it feels like I'm hitting tar snakes on a summer day. I've broke traction and felt the rear get a bit fishy several times in first and felt it break traction shifting into second. I've never left any marks on the road though; I think they may have gotten hard.

I really hope that new tires will make my baby feel confident in the lean.

I like the idea of the radials but have really good handling and mileage out of Dunlop American Elites on my Voyager.
Does anyone do their own tires? The bias American Elites are pretty stiff to get on; how easily do the radials slip on?

I put on the Exedra Max V rated radials they went on very nicely and have handled and worn well. I believe I'e got about 7000 miles on them and they are still "good" 42 P.S.I rear and 39 P.S.I. front.

I have the American made Dunlop Elite 3 150/80/17 Radial (on my second one now, best tyre I have had on front) on the front and was there when tyre guy was fitting it didn't seem to have any trouble unlike the rear, I might Add this is on an 08 Std

That there Dunlop Elite 3 is a great tire!
I give it a slight nod over the Dunlop D251.
Sux that neither come in a 140 size.

HOW bout a 130 ??

Too small, IMHO.
Lowers ground clearance too much. In the twisties, after the pegs drag, the peg rail is next and will put you on your ass pronto!
Trust me - the plates and screws in my left leg attest to it.
Check out Mr Hunt's photo. Now lower the front with a 130 then dive into the beginning of a tighter twisty than the corner shown and you'll get the idea.
