I'm getting close to the 500 mi. mark and was wondering how much lee-way I have. In other words if I go 600 mi. will I jeopardize the engine? If I take it in with 475 mi. will the engine have had enough time to break in?Thanks in advance 8)

I don't think I'd worry too much about 550, 600 or even more. Specially if you haven't ridden the wheels off it in during that time. 500 is the target mileage for the oil change. Anywhere with in reason would be OK.

My dealer says he doesn't want to see me until 900-1000mi... Says 500 too soon... He recommends under 4k rpm until 300mi and under 6k rpm until 600 mi..

Mike....

Yeah, my dealer told me that bringing in the bike around 600+ wasn't a big deal. But I still went without riding my Classic for a whole week till I got the break in oil out of her, and then took her up to 130 mph to see what she'd do.
All the Best,
Dog

I did 900 before getting back to the shop for the 500. Big Bastard had about 100 miles on it out the door, 300 miles home, dicking around for 200+, then back 300 miles to the dealer. No problem with the dealer and checked out ok - cept the oil fling around the rear hub. That was said to be just an overfill. Only have 3400 on it now and everything has been **** near perfect. Only two stalls coming off freeway ramps. Other than that, the big bastard kicks it up big time. Scares me only when the roads are wet (big lie). Cuts loose pretty **** easy. Just gotta get used to that.

Best cycling I've ever done.
