black soot, front disc pad?

Just returned from a ride, about 200 miles, noticed a black soot on the under side of the motor, shift linkage, some on the front rim, my guess, brake pad dust. Anyone had this, if so, how long did it take to brake in the pads, I have about 2,000 miles. Alot of dust, are the pads just soft?

I think you answered your own question. Brake dust, environment and road grime. Normal stuff and it'll collect more in areas that should have a bit of grease like the shift linkage and wheel axles.
