I'm posting this for my friend, Cr0ft - with whom I've gone round and round about electric vehicles. While problems with range and recharge still remain (read article), I have to admit I'd like to try twisting the "throttle" on one of these! 218 MPH - YIKES!

I wonder if all motorcycle and light cars will be electric in the near future as battery tech. improves. Seems like we are headed that way. Cost is a factor now but will come down as sales volume goes up. Gas and diesel may be only for heavy trucks in the future.
 
There seems to be a war brewing in the realm of 0 emission vehicles. We're getting start ups like this that produce all electric vehicles, but lots of big names in Asia are pushing hydrogen fuel cells. The next 10 years are going to be really interesting.

Haha, yeah, electric is our future or at the very least the future of our kids or grandkids, we can't afford to keep pouring filth into the communal air supply. But thankfully electric too can be exciting, once we get over the current teething problems I see no reason why we can't have a Rocket equivalent with a beast of an electric motor in it. :)

There's another electric monster race bike out there too, the Mission RS https://www.mission-motorcycles.com/rs that's pretty much in a similar league as well.

The problem with hydrogen is that it's less efficient than direct electricity, but above all it's scary stuff. Just storing and transporting it in big quantities is a huge headache. That stuff will literally seep through solid steel. But I guess time will tell.
 
Sooo, where does the electricity come from? Batteries do not produce power, they store it, and, since most power plants in the world are coal or maybe natural gas fired, the emissions may actually be worse with an electric bike. (Add in all the nastiness associated with the creation of those high tech batteries too!)

Electric vehicles are not actually zero emission. They really only move the emissions to wherever the electricity is produced.

Just saying.
 
Also, hydrogen is a similar story. An energy storage medium, not a source.

Yes, but that argument about coal power is specious, because if we're talking about the cars themselves we don't have to keep using coal or natural gas, and in fact shouldn't. It's not that we don't know how to generate clean power, we just are too silly to do so. :)

Also, even with coal-produced power, electric vehicles are cleaner than gas-powered cars overall. Not to mention that fuel refineries are huge users of - mostly coal - power to refine the gas.

But I think the takeaway here is still that electric vehicles can be cool too. Losing internal combustion as an option sucks, but not as much as the alternative over time. In my opinion.
