Been thinking about a new Rocket 3 Touring

The stock seat is a one piece front to rear where the long haul touring seat is actually two pads that you put together.

The stock pillion seat is 10" front to rear and 11" wide where the long haul touring pillion pad is 12" front to rear and 13" across the widest part. My wife says those couple of inches make a world of difference, especially when I put the dead animal (sheepskin) on it for her.

Thanks for that info Bob. If I do go for the R3T, and I can get the bonus money for accessories, I'd prolly do the seat setup, heated grips, and the Triumph adjustable highway peg setup.
I was looking on the Triumph accessory site, and I didn't see the drivers backrest that I assume goes with the long haul seat. Is it a Triumph backrest?

Buy the Rocket... you won't regret it. Bought my '15 in March and have about 2500 miles on it. Loving every minute of it!
Fast and powerful off the showroom floor. Cheap and easy to get an additional boost by remapping the ecu. a $20 cable will set you right
I am 5'11", 250lbs and the bike fits me almost perfect, except the windshield is a little short. Replacing that.
My butt does go numb after a couple hours. I am looking to replace the stock seat as well.
And +1 for ABS
My only complaint is the bike's sound... stock, it sounds like a Jetson's vehicle. Thinking of a slip on (TORS or D&D) to give it more of a growl.

Net mash, what do you mean by increasing power by a $20 cable?

The long haul has a plug in it that comes out to mount the backrest. I am not sure they are being made anymore. For some unfathomable reason Triumph starts and discontinues items on a whim. What may have been available last month is suddenly discontinued.

I really don't remember if it was included with mine or was extra.

Basically you use the cable to remap the bikes ECU to derestrict the throttle bodies, giving you 20-30 hp... makes it a different bike.

Some people use an android phone and a dongle. I used a Win 10 laptop and a cable. Search Amazon for
"USB Cable for Triumph Motorcycle TuneECU Program" Was 24.95 and eligible for Prime shipping.

Well the more I read and look, the more I'm unsure between the r3t and the f6b. At first, I was going to rule out the Honda due to the lack of abs, but maybe the linked braking is a good compromise.
I love the full fairing on the b but I remember when I had my wing, I used to have to really reach for the highway pegs due to the cylinders being right in the way. But the seating is much better on the b compared to a full wing. Much more room to move around.
The rockets engine is more narrow, so highway peg use won't be an issue I don't think.
The b must have a lower center of gravity, but maybe I'm worrying over nothing.
On a cold October morning, I'm going to wish for the fairing, but when it warms up out, I'm going to wish for the rocket.
I know motorcycles are a compromise, but I really want to get this right first time.
I still can't get past the bicycle like cable for the rockets clutch. I just don't get it. My last few bikes have been hydraulic, which is the way to go. I wish they wouldn't have skimped on that one item.

My riding Buddie has the FB6 and loves it, he has had a lot of bikes Z900s FJ1100,750 Commando , Bandit 1250 ect and says the FB is by far the best he has ever owned ,great fairing,sterio,huge panniers great seat ,and a 1800 cc 6, it handles really well and has a fair turn of speed ,My R3T is basic when compared to the FB but I can clean his dial anytime from a standing start to 100kph roll ons ,if I was going to ride around Australia the comfort and Touring range per tank would sway me toward the FB6 but my R3T is what I need at the moment

Well I was able to locate a Rocket three touring today at a dealership. I got a good feel for it by sitting on it. The weight is down pretty low I assume due to the heavy crankshaft.
I am also interested in the Honda f6b deluxe. I was able to check that bike out today also. But for a bike that costs about $4000 more, they don't come with ABS. I couldn't believe it, and that is a big deterrent.
I did like the passenger seating room on the f6b and the wind protection is superior.
One of the first things that I would change with the rocket would be to switch to a larger windshield.
My wife liked the Honda a little more due to the bodywork and the more roomy rear seating area.
I'm not into too many gadgets though, and I could give or take the radio. I like the more basic layout of the rocket. So, I guess I've got some things to think about. I really did want my next bike to have ABS.

There is a bigger rear seat available, but the rear is only about two inches wider, and padding is marginally better. I ride two up mostly with my son on the back, you will need to dial up the spring preload to number 4 or 5, then it's good. We can ride all day in comfort. There are no bells and whistles on the R3t, but its is a fun bike to ride.

I have numerous bikes and several have Hydraulic clutches and Id rather have the cable clutch assy

Would you please tell me why the cable clutch is what you prefer? I'm really stuck on this one issue, maybe for no reason. It just seems like a bike of this size should have everything more heavy duty.
