Yes There's a lot of people importing cars, trucks and bikes from the U.S. all that were sold new in Aust back in the day were right hand drive. Some that were sold in small numbers were imported left hand then converted to right here in Aust. as they do now with new Dodge, Chev and Ford trucks now.

You can import and register a LHD vehicle in NSW if it is over 30years old and under 4.5Tonnes GVW, older LHD vehicles are popular here as they are considerably cheaper than RHD vehicles, and we are running out of original RHD cars here ,but a lot of rusted out junkers are being flogged of to gullible Aussies who want an instant entry into the Hot Rod or Custom Car scene, IMHO I think the satisfaction of rebuilding repowering your own car is more satisfying than just cheque book ownership ,but a lot of guys don't have the facility, time or basic skills to build their own cars ,so good on them as long as it keeps the cars on the road and away from the scrap dealers.

I enjoy that (at least in this Archer Falls event) there seem to be many mechanically operating, yet un-restored oldies.
This is very KEWL IMHO!
I restored a 1955 Bel Air 2 door with the original 265 V8 power-pack with 4 barrel carb, high rise manifold & dual exhaust.
It was my daily driver for 22 years when I sold it for a tidy sum and bought another motor. :D

The Shoe Box Chevs(55 to 57 models) are extremely popular in OZ ,a decent 55 with a V8 265 or repowered with the venerable small block 350 will bring Aud$60,000 plus and 57s even more ,when I was a kid most of the 55s to 57s imported to Oz had the asthmatic blue flame six slug and would not pull a sailor off your sister, the big Fords here only came with the V8 and were the big guns in town,
