Another ignition switch failure.

Yes, the wire harness. When it started I thought it was the ignition switch, but after further investigation I found that the connector from the ignition switch to the wiring harness was the problem. Everytime you even touched the connector the bike would cycle on and off with the key on. One wire in the bundle was getting very hot, its the main power wire to the ignition. It was even melting the connector on the one wire. I'll post an update when I find out for sure if that is what is wrong. Taking the bike in next week. The only other incident I've heard of like this is in the UK, he also had an 09.

Mine just got fixed last week. The solder came loose. I used a zip tie to hold the wire over to a point it would make contact so I could get it to the dealer. They just fixed the existing switch.

Yea, I have the white connector. I thought it was unusual for the thing to be exposed like that. Has there been a lot of problems like this ?

biker1059, which dealer you taking it to ?

snuffcityrider, how did you know to look there for the problem ?
The bike would start and then die when I turned the handle bars, so I just jiggled wires till I found that the one coming out of the ignition was the problem. I found that pulling it to the right made it run so I zipped tied it in that direction so I could ride it to the dealer.

Ok, focus is back on the ignition switch. Went out this morning and turned the key on and nothing, reached under the switch and moved the wires and she comes to life. Called my dealer and he agreed, so he's sending me the lock set to replace and said if I continue to have problems he will replace the wiring harness. I just didn't think the ignition switch could act up this long(2months).

Had exactly the same problem over here in Oz. Solder dry joint broke and left me miles from help. Fixed in a minute after a $400 bill to find it. (Was a few years back before it became commonplace) Bloody lazy production line Pom with a cool soldering iron! **** him!
