ABS Light stays on with 130/70R-17 front tire

150 options seem more limited but will look at the Bridge Excedra - non Max - as well.
There are several 150/80 options in "H" speed rating.

If you ride soft and your average temps are low and it's often wet - could be an option. I know others have had good experience with a Shinko tyre (F230 I think). Once the H is warm (and that wont take long) an "H"ll probably stick like hot **** to a blanket.

Here it's a non starter. I need colder running tyres. I wear H rated out on my 60-70bhp 1979 Guzzi. Last set of Metzler Lasertechs lasted about 6000kms (rear is bald - front barely legal) - moving to V rated Avons. I do push the Guzzi though - I've had it 31 years and know how to "use" it.

Just ordered the Michelen Commander II in 140/75-R17 and looking forward to trying it and getting my ABS back...

I DID put over 700 miles on the 130 Exedra Max and it was AWESOME! Speeds over 80 mph and tore up the dragon on Thursday. You can find the pics at 129slayer.com for Friday, August 16 starting at 1:17 PM

Thanks for all the help and I'll report back on the 140 soon

I'm not trying to bust your chops or doubting what you stated that you're feeling, just trying to get an accurate idea of exactly what the concern is.
Phil - I think I now know. I've been out testing on local (alpine type) roads.

On poorish uneven (though no potholes etc) surfaces I do feel a very light weave at the bars at over 165kph (just over 100mph) - not enough to worry me MUCH but enough to make me wary and back off a bit. Has a "tyre pressure wrong" feel to it.

Can't recall having this with the Avon or Metz BUT I don't push the beast to a ton on these particular roads - as there's too high a risk of something appearing from the side. Plus it's illegal enough on these roads to have my license removed so it's not something I'll miss doing too much. Generally I'd run at just under 80mph on them - illegal but just fines.

Before the 140 tyre it felt a bit too sluggish to be able to swerve and avoid escaped cows, wild boar, deer rabbits etc at high speeds. The improved handling in the twisties gives one (that's to say ME) the confidence to do so now.

I'll get onto some motorway later in the week and have another thrash - but it depends whether the traffic-nazis are out hunting. As that's where most folk drive fast - that's where the cameras are.

I know that Carpenter use a 120 tyre at Bonneville - so I doubt it's JUST width. But they also use a 200 rear (I've asked Art for spec's but he's reluctant to say as he's not road tested them - which is fair) - and it COULD be the disparity in widths that's an issue. I recall this from back when I followed 24*7 racing closely.

cadconversions,
I would like to know how that Commander II does for you. Hopefully, just a one tire anomaly; but, mine lasted only 7406 miles and it was way beyond the wear limits.
Best Regards,

Sure thing but it will be at least a year. I only did about 8000 miles last year on the rocket. the front Metzler really wasn't ready to replace but I wanted to go with a smaller front tire... it only had 7,200 miles on it at the time.

Well boys & girls, I have good news.
Installed the new Excedra Max 130 ZR today. After about 5 or so quick miles with a few hard ABS front and rear brake apps -
NO RED LIGHT for me so far. :D :D :D

The bike feels way smoother and nimble entering corners and there's no flopping at very slow speed bar lock turns. It sure does look SMALL under that front fender. :D I can also feel that the pegs have lost a little lean angle. How much? Time shall tell me if or how much a PIA this shall become. I hate to consider it because of the expense; but, I'm thinking a taller set Hagon Nitros will possibly be in my future. :(

This Monday's week long ride to Alice's Restaurant in CA to meet RKTNMYPKT should shake things out pretty well.

Go easy with that less ground clearence the peg rail will start scraping and it takes no prisoners.

WOW - we have the same bike and completely different results. Interesting... My 140 tire has already arrived but now I'm afraid - they will mount the tire and I'll have the same issue.

Do you have the 240/55 rear tire as well?

As far as the reduced clearance and scraping - I just got back from the dragon and pushed it fairly hard. I only dragged twice on the right side and was over far enough I almost caught my highway pegs but don't think I was anywhere near the foot rail. I'll try to pull the pics back up and take a closer look.

Trust me if you have removed the standard mufflers from a Roadster and you have worn the footpeg from the bottom up through to the rubber. The next thing is the front corner of the left side peg rail and if you keep trying to go quicker like I did. The next thing to scrape after the peg rail gets about half worn through is the lefthand handle bar weight and that hurts. The trouble with dragging the rail is if you tip it in just a bit to much it lifts the front tyre of the road.
This doesn't appear to be as big a problem on the models before 2010 as there pegrails are tucked up close to the engine.
