A New Rocket 3 Touring

Considering an R3T

I'll add my 2 cents. I bought my 2008 brand new in March of 2010.
I've had a couple of issues, one being the clutch lifter shaft. The factory
shaft is made of silly putty. Get that P.O.S. out of there! You want to call
Power Tripp Performance and get his tool steel machined version of that shaft.
Reason: THEY FAIL and when they do, your on the side of the road!
Second: Get ahold of Eastern Beaver and get a wiring harness bypass for your
ignition switch. This nicely made little harness plugs right into your factory harness
and removes the excessive heat going through your ignition switch.
I'm still hopeful for long term reliability (at 17,000 miles). But the bike does have
some great features, you just need to be aware of some of the problem areas.
I got mine (Brand new demo w/790 miles) for $14,000. It was the best deal on an
open class touring bike that I could find. I still have my fingers crossed.
Victory X Country = $22,000 to 24,000
Harley FLHCT = $24,000 to 27,000
Kawasaki 1700 - $16,000 to 18,000
Honda = Shadow Touring $15,000 to 17,000
Suzuki C90T = $16,000 to 17,000
Yamaha Star = $17,000 to 19000
So, $14,000 is pretty reasonable. If I can get long term reliability, I'll be way ahead.

Speaking from experience, I would highly recommend one with ABS brakes. The rear brake is very touchy, VERY. Just ask my right dislocated elbow. Just saying P.S. love my Rocket

I purchased a 2012 Rocket 3 Roadster back in June......300 miles into ownership I found the cylinder head leaking oil out of a pinhole.....I was mortified! I took it back to the dealer (80 miles) and in two weeks time it was like brand new.....you could'nt even tell the head had been changed. Did this change my view on Triumph motorcycles? Not a chance! I had a serious accident back in November....totaled the Roadster.....and Iam picking up my brand new 2013 R3T at the end of this month....can't wait to ride again!

I have never had the clutch issue and I have 25k miles on mine, could it be riding style?

Also, I had a 12 dollar relay go bad which I thought was the ignition switch but it wasn't.

I agree, after looking at the 2013, did not feel the need to trade up. As you, I have the 2009. I installed a fairing with detachable Triumph hardware, a gel seat with a backrest. Now I have a Rocket that fits like a glove!

Gel seat WITH a backrest? Where did you get that?

Fairing

Where did you get a fairing with detachable Triumph hardware?
I want a fairing for my R3T but am concerned about how to make the clamp hardware.

There is nothing wrong with the Triumph clutch lifter shaft. If it breaks it is because the clutch was adjusted wrong or set up wrong from the dealer. Get another dealer or set it up right yourself. Remember the person taking the bike out of the crate and putting the front whell and bars on it plus the other little things like the fender and brkake assembly does not get paid withthe technician does/ Of course the techincian gpes pver the bike to insure its is ase, bled ansd set up right. If your failed he was definetly over paid and under skilled. The answer is a bettwer Triumph shop period
