A Labor of Love; aka building a Rocket III Speedster

He has everything :p

The smarter move would be emailing him but...I've been wanting to spec out my own valvetrain since I last had Mufasa's engine open. This is simply an exercise in can I, more than should I.

To be frank, his springs, retainers, and valves would tolerate my power goal for the turbo engine without blinking and pending answers from Ferrea on price, I may still go that route.

He always answers the phone, as soon as i get the info from machine shop im fixing to call him for another set of valves that arnt bent and guides so he will already be making a set, his guides are brass I believe but i cant say I really didnt ask just know they are pretty, were 😳😪

Frame, Swingarm, Valve Cover and Oil tank, front wheel all dropped for coating ;)

Frame weights about 15lb less than a Roadster frame now. The 05 is built different, small things, like the neoprene insert in the swing arm that Mufasa didn't have. Removed rear subframe 1/2" after the first large fender bolt hole and passenger peg rails at the cast piece.

At the last moment I had a change of heart and am going with Iced Black Cherry, since my 16" rear wheel is already done in it.

This color (not my wheel)

Looks black in all but bright sun, when it pops it looks the deepest red/purple possible.

For the tins I'm leaning either crimson, royal blue, or white, metallics for all colors. Right now a deep cobalt blue has my attention, like this with metallic:

Or the red, which is gorgeous IMHO

Or white because it was never an OEM option, I've only seen 2 white Rocket 3s, and I have a strong affinity for custom colored off-white bikes:

Triumph logo and some special text will be airbrushed onto the tank.

I also found the MaxxECU Race H20 with both harnesses and a Bosch LSU 4.2 sensor for $1480 shipped, ~$1500 less than the Haltech equivalent.

I do not need the mo.unit any longer, I've sorted how to control everything with just the ECU, engine, lights, all of it.

Regarding throttle actuator, I'm going even cheaper. LS3 throttlebody/actuator is easy to modify, readily available, and cheap as chips (~$60). With some care, the whole throttle blade/passage can be lopped off leaving a small, lightweight, high quality actuator. Cut at teal line:

If someone were to do the whole conversion but kept the stock harness/relay setup, it could be done for well under 2 grand using the LS3 TB, Race H20 ECU, Bosch coil Igniter, and KTM throttle tube and reusing all the stock sensors etc.

Makes the cost of semi-equivalent function seem silly:
DJ PC-V ~330
DJ ignition Module ~300
DJ Auto tune ~330
McCruise ~850
Vampire Knock Controller ~550
External 2 step ?? Price
External traction control ~500

2860+ and far less capability. In retrospect I should've done this a long time ago.

Rapid bike makes one.
Gripone also,

No idea as to their efficacy or how extensively modifications need to get to make them work, but it's not plug and play.
