8 years old 5000 miles and no service history - where to start.

Ha ha... says the man from Dartmoor... where men are men and sheep are scared.... did the Oakhampton to Princetown mast yomp as a yungun, great part of the world... to see in the rearview... ;)
  They certainly are ! Was that on a chain gang to the prison ? Have to admit tho , your part of the world is fair special too !

Last June I bought a 2012 Roadster. I know not as old as yours but here is what I found going over:

#1 Oil change

#2 Coolant flush - manual calls for a flush at two year increments

#3 Found out spark plug coils were not "popped" on to the plugs like they should have been which caused problems for me down the road

#4 Check all pads

#5 Flushed brake fluid

#6 Pulled rear wheel off and checked spline lubrication

#7 I am going to do a fuel filter replacement this winter. I only run non-ethanol premium in it but have no idea what was put in it before. More precautionary step than a mandatory step

#8 Took scotch pad and hot soapy water and scrubbed the tires real good

Sweet, thanks for the heads up.

I would think twice about running premium. I run only real gas in mine but regular is all that is required or recommended.

Premium only if the bike DEFINITELY runs better, and I am sure it will not, for the bike was made for Regular. Of course sometimes pure gas is only available in premium and if you want pure get whatever octane they selling as pure.

It's not the octane I am after, it is the gas without ethanol that I want. In Missouri, state laws requires GH87 to have 10% ethanol in it. The only choice we get that does not have ethanol is premium. When in Kansas I can get straight GH87. I have seen first hand what ethanol does to gaskets and seals and I try to stay away from it for my bikes as much as I possibly can. Working in the petroleum field for the past 23 years, I can tell you how much of a joke ethanol is but I don't want to sidetrack the thread. I know our manuals doesn't call for the higher octane fuels but in my case, I will take the higher octane so that I can get rid of ethanol.
