245 car tyre on lowered rocket

Sensei,
The first seven words you have written that I disagree with.
Each to his own, Amigo, or as my wife says, "five fingers" - They be all similar and do similar things yet are indeed very different.

believe me if you had seen the Metz I pulled of with chunks missing along the edge and the number of times I checked my pants after the slips it caused on roads I have ridden for years and now I can ride as hard as I did before with no slips or slides

Don't want to debate it ('coz I know how much you like it and that's great), but that doesn't necessarily translate to being safer. Feeling more sure footed just means you feel you can push harder. A bit like scraping pegs doesn't mean you're riding faster; just means you're leaning over more. I think what most of us who don't want to use a car tyre feel is that you cannot say it's safer to run a car tyre on its edge than it is to use a bike tyre. Now don't get all huffy and defensive now. Just sayin'.

Good points CanberraR3. I have no issues with the use of a CT; but, until I see some bona fide testing that proves a CT is "safer" or "faster", I shall remain skeptical. I've not seen too many running the Isle of Man. :D Have you read Warpo's recent CT comment on some other thread? Major funny!

The Metz DOES INDEED SUK !!! I have done several unintended and certainly unexpected brodies when far under expected corner limits with mine. Rode back and inspected the roadway each time for any surface contaminate to no avail. Lucky for me every time so far I was accelerating from a fairly slow speed around a corner. Interestingly I have ran four rear Metz on my V2K (800 lbs) with never any such issues.

About got the Stock Metz done for and have a new set waiting to start the summer with. Next couple weeks or so, some serious burnouts shall be in order!

Can't say I'm ready to go dark side, but my stock Metz is on it's last season (if it makes it that far). I always chalked the slips or slides to my riding, not the tire, as I had Metz on all my other bikes and loved them.
Any recommendations on the replacement (staying with MT)?? Seems I should use the experience on this site to help determine rather than guys at a shop!

The brigdestone Exerdra Max seems to be the choice of the MT

There are only 2 tyres in the correct size; Metzler and Avon Cobra, both 240/50x16. Of these, I found the Avon far superior in dry conditions and certainly no worse than Metz in the wet. I got 50% more mileage from the Avon too. They cost about the same.

The Bridgestone is 240/55x16. Same width (although it is actually physically wider) but higher profile. This gives you very slightly taller gearing, which is fine on a Rocket because the torque handles it easily. By raising the back a little it makes steering more responsive and I find it puts me better in the power band coming out of corners, but that will depend a little on how you ride. It is more cushioned so gives a better ride and just plain looks better. It also has the effect of correcting your speedo. Much better in all conditions than both the others, costs less and gives me double the mileage of the Metz.
A no brainier if ever there was one.

I partner it with an Avon Cobra on the front. Perfect!

After Hanso's suggestion I went online to search. Pretty much found what you were saying about the "exact" sizes. The sites I was on didn't have the best reviews for the Bridgestones (sidewall issues?), but the Cobra was twice the price. Reviews did give the Cobra better grip, especially in the turns, but had slide out problems on hard braking? Never really want to do that, but always want to know I'll be safe (as possible) when I need to!
All that is caveat-ed with the fact they were multiple types of bikes and riders doing the reviews and only a few sites (sales). I think if you guys are riding the rocket on the Exerdra, and particularly if you've tried both, I'll take those reviews with a little more weight. Luckily, in no hurry! But I definitely fit the need for a "no brainer" :D

Also, didn't mean to highjack the dark side thread!!
