To all the esteemed Ladies and Gentlemen attending Leakey in October, I thought it might be pertinent and good manners to explain my absense from the meeting.
10 days ago I had tests on a sore spot/lump that formed at the back of my throat and it has proved to contain cancerous cells. Since that first diagnosis I have attended several appointments, today being the latest where the lump, along with my tonsils were removed.The Surgeoen is confident that he has found the origin of the cancerous cells but full tests have yet to made with the results due on August 30th. A course of radiation therapy is booked to start on 2nd Spetember, 5 days a week for between 8 to 12 weeks. There several debilitating side effects, losing the rest of my hair, (should be a quick process) lethargy, weight loss, etc.. This treatment covers the whole of the dates for Leakey and I have had to therefore cancel. I did ask if the dates could be moved and start treatment later. The consultant cocked and eyebrow and asked " Do you like playing with fire??" 2nd Of September it is then!!
