2 Rockets Compare Dobeck Performance AFR Plus to TuneECU - Long Post

We just want it to work and do what it says it can do. Knowing how to operate it is essential but knowing the math of how it does its magic isn't so important.

Why would the base tune matter? I would think the AFR would auto adjust to whatever regardless of the base tune?
The base tune covers OTHER aspects of the ECU than JUST the AFR ratios. It allows you to change the operating characteristics of the base tune.
The Most obvious being

1) Secondary throttle butterfly openings
2) Fuel to Load table switching.
3) Ignition - if you feel up to it.

This will all affect AFR.

So , you are a fan of the PCV OPTION as opposed to tune ecu? I've got no technical skills and marginal mechanical, took me an hour to mount my backrest/luggage rack on bike. Riding in Denver I start at 5280ft and typically ride at closer to 9000ft. Would like a performance boost in bike. As an early 2013 build, my rocket 3 is still restricted, even with the PCV install, I would still require other input as with the tuneecu to derestrict. Is that correct? Hope I didn't stray too far off topic.

IMHO @Les, TuneECU is the most valuable and cost effective tool that you will ever get for your R3. The ability to diagnose and correct problems simply is priceless. The ability to tweak settings is also valuable.

With TuneECU you can also make sure that you have a good base tune in your bike. The PCV/AT, with a good map, will then bring your bike to as close to optimum performance as you can get without a full, quality, dyno tune.

Thanks for input. live in a Mac world and don't currently have a portable pc so the tuneecu is going to cost a bit to implement. As soon as i pick up a laptop, hope to derestrict the bike and install a triple filter intake upgrade.

The only difference between the unrestricted and restricted Roadster tunes is the secondaries. You could borrow a PC and fix that in 10 minutes. The ECU adapts to ambient pressure but I'm not sure about 9000 ft where the O2 concentration is 6% lower than at sea level. Maybe you should think about a super charger.

I have only ridden to an altitude of 14,000', and the RIII worked great there - also got the best fuel economy.

Thanks, rode an 07' with secondaries removed, triple K&N and Tors and performance seemed night and day above my stock 2013. Would like to maximize performance for money and reliability. Detail on Dobeck, PCV AND TUNEECU are great but a bit over my head. With no good local tuner I am aware of in Denver, looking for easiest best performance gain I can do.
