Hi all, it's been a while.

I was contemplating the idea of installing a Power Commander from DynoJet on my 2016 R3R this season. I have a few questions...

1. I was told I need that if I have a custom exhaust. Is that accurate??
I do have a 2-into-1 exhaust which was installed by the previous owner.

2. I was told I can't ECU Flash the bike because they can only do that for 2019 and up models. Is that true?

3. Power Commander 5 vs 6? 5 is more expensive for some reason and always sold out. That's saying something but I figured id ask people who have it installed.

4. If do go for this, what kind of "improvements" am I expected to get from the bike? I haven't really seen any flaws on it yet but obviously I'm no expert and don't know what may be happening under the hood.

I'm no expert either, but if I were you I'd be talking to Mr Penner & installing one of his tunes over a PC 5 or PC 6. Alternatively download TuneECU. pay the subscription find a suitable map for your setup & go from there.
Thank you. I contacted one of the places in my area that does motorcycle tuning and they were saying that I cannot do the ECU stuff because my motorcycle does not support it. I'm really not sure how to find out if it does or not

A 2016 Rocket III 2300cc is fully downloadable and tune-able with Tune ECU. You can do it yourself and it is better than using a PC 5 or 6. Of course a dyno tune is best. See if you can locate a tuner who uses TuneECU to tune Triumph bikes. If not, there are many canned tunes from several tuners on the TuneECU website. Follow Kiwicol advice. You will be glad you did.

So a dyno tune can be done independently from the ECU/PC route? I'm sorry a bit confused

A dyno tune can be done by most tuners using the Power Commander products. Which are a piggyback system that overrides the bike EFI controls in the ECU. Most dyno tuners use this method and it is all they know. There are some more advanced tuners who can tune the bikes ECU directly using a computer program called TuneECU. What we are saying is, it is better to dyno tune directly into the bikes ECU. If you can find a tuner who uses TuneECU, this kind of tuning is thought to be better.

You can also purchase a download of TuneECU for your smart phone/ tablet and download canned tunes from their website. There are some really good tunes on that website.

Penner on this forum has some really good tunes for the 2.5 L Rockets. I'm not sure what he has for the older 2.3 L Rockets.

Bottom line is they are probably not familiar with straight to ECU tuning because PCs are all they know. With Tunecu you can remap the ECU plus you have access to just about everything the ECU controls. IMHO you probably would have better luck trying a tuner that works with more sport bikes than Harleys. I don't know what the PCs cost these days but you'll save a lot with Tunecu. Read the the resources area on here and you'll see lots of tunes that would work on your bike. Tuneecu.fr is the official website.
