When I left work yesterday the first thing I noticed was a nice bright staple sticking in the CT tread. I didn't pull it out until I was sitting in my driveway. I was extremely lucky since the prongs didn't penetrate past the meat of the tread. (If it had been a Mez I know the rim would have been on the ground.) During the ride home I was thinking, if I have a puncture, am I going to run a plug with a car tire? I would never consider running a regular bike tire with a plug, but what about the dark side? Glad I didn't have to make the call......

It would depend.
If I was riding back and forth to work, about 35 minutes, then yes.
If I was headed to the dragon (1000 miles,), then no.
If I had time to make sure it was gonna be ok, say riding on the plug about every day for a month or so, and it didn't leak any,
then I'd trust it.
I look at it like I tell my kids.
Love is freely given.
Respect and Trust are earned.
I'd have to learn to trust it.

I'd run it a plug. My thinking is that the tread depth is so much thicker than the Metz that the plug has ample surface area to adhere to and isn't likely to be forced out by air pressure.

No Way!

No way i would use the tire with a standard plug. The tire must be dismounted and a patch put on the inside...plus the plug. The plug keeps the water out of the tire. The patch keeps the air in the tire. Without the patch the air can leak into the ply area of the tire...never go flat, just blowout!
Standard rope/string plugs are actually illegal. They are sold in stores but clearly marked for off the road use only.
Never fix a tire when the punture is within one inch of the crown (shoulder).
A string/rope plug should just be used to get home. A patch/plug can be a more permanent repair.
I would never use a repaired motorcycle tire. Even at $300 a pop it's not worth getting torn up over. I carry a can of "fix a flat" to get me off the highway if needed.

No plug, no way, no how, on a car or motorcycle. It's structurally unsound, especially on a a radial. The last time I had a plug was when I drove on retreads.

I personally am not running a darkside, but if I was and got a flat I would replace the tire just because every thread I've read is thay are so much cheaper than a metz.:D

However if you get the extended warranty on your tires when you buy the bike new flats are not a problem you get a flat you ride it home and call the dealer and ***** they come and pick up the bike put a new tire on and call you saying your bikes done and we put a new rim on because you wrecked the rim that was on the bike riding it home and its all covered under the 200.00 dollar extended warranty or thats what my dealer rep told me when he sold me the warrenty on my second rocket .

Either way the LAST thing I would want is a plug causing a blow out at speed personally I would replace no matter what the cost my life is worth more than a cheap tire metz or otherwise!!!!! And I would assume your life is worth the cost a a new tire darkside or otherwise.

If I was on the side of the road, I'd plug it, get it home or to a place where the tire could be dismounted on one side and I'd boot it inside with a flat vulcanizing patch.

I thought this was a sex thread to which I'd have to reply gthat it's been a while since I've plugged anything........................................
