I have to respectfully disagree.
I've ridden over 80K miles on one and over 20K on a second R3R.
Bvoth have been coast to coast across the USA and much more with NO tranny issues!
I also am no pokemon when riding.
a little clarification, 100kmiles , 74yrs. Exp. / Professional Rider/ rated by a very respected rider as maybe the best or top couple hes rode with, yeah transmission issues normally skip guys like this. disclaimer: Big fan
I never said they were bad. Op asked about major or common issues. This is my experience and when it happens to you, you go down the rabbit hole of finding out this happens to a lot of owners.
I would not try and discourage a new owner from buying any gen rocket.
I've joined the insanity! A 2012 Roadster with 16k miles now sits in my garage.
First question (out of tons more) the front Avon cobra tire is mounted backwards, could that cause the over-steer issue I am having?
