Wish me luck

The Stock fork dampers are VERY poor. Fitting the maxtons really was a night/day change.
Totally agree with you there , just changed springs and oil in mine and spent a long time wondering what was wrong with the stock dampers . They are completely linear and not Good considering they are showa units ! I will definitely be looking at changing them when finances allow .

I have ordered a set of GP20's from Maxton ....these are the non adjustable ones ....they quoted 2 - 3 weeks to build them ...I will send my forks to them when they are finished so that they can fit the internals and new fork seals .... I am hoping for a complete transformation.... I am using 440's on the back but I might change them to something better

By non-adjustable - you mean Preload I guess. Me too. I've had to back the rebound damping off a bit. Just sitting more upright meant 1/2 less. So they are sensitive. I have Fournales on the rear (they carry varying load well) - but I'd now be tempted to have Maxton rears too. Mine came with 1kg/mm springs with a 30mm preload. I may get my local suspension guy to fit me slightly stronger springs with a bit less preload. Same static ride height but a wee bit more rising rate. Maybe 10 or 15% more. Or progressive rate springs. We'll see.

I went for non adjustable preload / damping ...... It doesn't have sports bike capabilities so I don't don't think it is necessary ...hopefully they will be ready next week

How much $$$???
No price on web site and I wish not to send in my personal info.

Price was £380 plus vat for the internals and £145 plus vat to rebuilt the forks with the new internals and fork seals etc
The front forks on the Rocket 3 are an upside down forks. The damping internals are sealed so they can not modified to improve them. The problems with them, is that they are too soft on compression damping and rebound damping and the springs fitted to them are also too soft. This means that the forks dive under braking and bottom out, then spring back when let go of the brake.

Unfortunately because original damping system can not be revalved; we throw the standard internals away and start again with our own damping system. The damping system we fit inside the forks is a modern 20mm cartridge system. The cartridge damping system has shims and shim stacks for rebound and compression damping, the Maxton cartridges are built to order, so we valve and spring them to suit your bike, what you use the bike for and your rider weight. The Maxton 20mm cartridges cost £380.00 + V.A.T.

We also supply an adjustable version of the 20mm cartridge; this has rebound damping and preload adjustment, this costs £480.00 + V.A.T.

To install the cartridges with new forks seals costs an extra £145.00 + V.A.T.

O.k., I'm really interested in doing this, and obviously while I can obtain the parts from our wonderful allies across the Atlantic (no disrespect to our wonderful allies across the Pacific), for folks east of the Mississippi, where would I get get the parts installed ?

Thank you for such an informative response!!!

This is the complete spec sheet from Maxton ...the non adjustable are GP20 cartridges and the fully adjustable are GP30

REAR

The standard rear twinshocks on the Rocket are not very good quality. The springs on the units are too soft for the average rider weight, which causes the bike to sit down under power and run wide. The twinshocks are also under damped on compression and rebound. This means there is not much support or control from the damping. Unfortunately the standard twinshocks are not rebuildable and we can not supply respring the shocks.

We supply our own Maxton T260 twinshocks, which are Alloy bodied, externally adjustable for rebound damping and preload. The shocks are built to order so we valve and spring to suit your rider weight and what you use the bike for. The Maxton units are fully rebuildable and serviceable. The Maxton twinshocks cost £470.00 + V.A.T a pair.
