Winter Storm Jonas aka A Cold Nor'easter

Good to hear all are recovering.
Sure glad I did not have to deal with it.
 
Yes just another storm for us just inland from the coast. Some of the folks on the barrier islands did not fare so well, lots of flooding and some of the highest tides ever recorded!
 
We have had a lot of serious flooding due to rain in the NW, but not all that ice & snow.
Why do folks continue to build in known wetlands? Stupid me thinks.

Cape may county is 70+ percent wetlands and that will never be built on. They can only build on existing lots that may or may not be wetlands.

Same reason that some momos choose to live nearby active volcanoes, fault zones, in fire country, tornado country, blizzard country, desert wastelands, tsunami areas or floodplains, et al. Not so much stupidity at play, methinks, but folks wanting to live near ceratin aspects of the natural world despite the inherent hazards.

To my knowledge, none of our fifty states allows anyone to build much of anything in known wetlands, but all bets (or regulations) are off with most of those other hazards, bulldinkey.
 
West wildwood made national news for the highest tide ever. They don't tell you the whole town is build on a landfill. They filled up the marsh with trash and then built on it.
 
Yep, it's now 20 acres of grossly overpriced $400,000-600,000+), crappy condos built about 10 yrs ago by K Hovnanian.
 
You are indeed correct regarding "wetlands" the legal term.
I should have stated known repeated flood lands.
 
Jonas has hit the UK bringing with it heavy rain and severe gales..The storm warmed up as it crossed the Atlantic so it's not bringing snow thank god because we here in the UK get a few inches of snow and the country is in chaos...
 
Good news for me, OPM has opened the government to a 3 hour delay. But most importantly, the city has brought in a big bucket dozer and has cleared the hard packed stuff off the road thus I can ride to work today. Being off the bike for so long is tough! A week in mid Jan due to travel and now no riding since Friday, I'm an emotional wreck I tell ya...
