Winter storage

illinois winter

I just rode through Huntley last week...... And through st charles today ( with only a few flurries ) .... I didn't want to hijack the thread, but boating already has..... the big question I have is how much trouble do your rockets give you when starting on a cold day? on a good ( but cold ) morning it takes me a few ( 6 or 7 ) seconds of cranking to get it to fire up.... I had one morning two weeks ago where it cranked and cranked and the battery dies.... leaving me stranded at my in-laws with no battery tender......

The 6-7 seconds in the cold is normal.

Cranking until your battery dies will get you either a dead battery or a dead starter.

How cold was it? I can only talk about 30F weather, it rarely gets much colder than that in WA.

Mine is hard to crank at below 40F, but usually goes on second try after the initial 3-4 seconds of crank with no fire. Too much cold oil to turn over is my estimate. Has not let me down yet. Park in a sunny spot and let the black engine case soak up del sol. Helps a lot, otherwise........get an electric blanket :D DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING ON THE TABLE, ride cold weather, just wear insulated Carhartt's. The face, hands and feet are the first to go. I just smile so when my face freezes up I am good to go.
