How do you know when you have them adjusted properly ?

Paul - The best way (imo the only way) is to push fast though some twisties. If it goes where it shouldn't - then try again.

To me, the 444s have more damping and it is automatic adjustable, which I really like.
The ability to hand adjust pre-load is also a great feature.
Progressive 444s are well worth the slightly larger price tag, IMHO.

They preload to your weight and whether your main style of riding is solo or two up and I believe rebound and compression set to mid position.

I adjusted the rebound etc so that when I went over a bump it didn't fire me out of the seat nor pogo because it was too soft. Didn't take long. Stopped by the side of the road, a few clicks, ride a try, tweak a bit more either plus or minus to get the right feel and that's it.
