A rest area I stopped in on the Hundalees. I caught up to a convoy of trucks & caravans & cars, so thought I'd pull over & wait a while so I had clear road through the twistie Hundalees.
Got through the Hundalees & turned off at Leader river & headed to Waiau. It was a clear calm morning & fairly brisk. I soon ran into fog / low cloud which got me quite wet & chilled right through. Slow pace as just can't see far enough ahead, but got through without mishap. Just out of the fog & below is Waiau, and more fog!
I stopped for a pie breakfast at Brendas' Tearooms & enjoyed the warmth of the sun slowly warming me up.
So through the fog again & I lost any warmth I'd gained at the tearooms. Major detour at Rotherham, sent me many k's on rough coarse shingle roads, not really the best place for the Rocket, but we got through unscathed albeit now with a layer of clay over the radiator grill & up the back light.
This is taken heading towards Lewis Pass, just after the Hanmer turn off. Brilliant clear skies & the temp is starting to increase from bloody freezing to just fairly cool.
The top of the Lewis Pass, 907m.
Last fuel stop at Springs Junction, it's a brilliant clear day in here. Lewis Pass is in the V part of the hills.
Springs Junction looking toward Nelson, magic day for sure as it's often cloudy & drizzle in here.
