What's going on with these speed liMits

I don't know what's happening in your parts but over here in Uk, (at least in my part) every time I go out what was a 60mph limit has dropped to 50mph & likewise with other limits. Are we gradually being suckered into a national speed reduction without them having to suffer the backlash. Not just that but there is now talk of reducing motorway limits to 60. & 50 in some areas, mind you if you can get to 70 on our motorways your doing well. What's it like where you are, is just here in UK or is it going global?
We can just ignore 50 as well as 60/70 or anything else, just wondered what's happening

france is doing the same on motorways and also on regional road dropping the limit by 10kph

Just had a bypass change fromm 55 to 70.. merica! Lol.
