What should I expect from K&N Air Filter replacement

My rocket is standard as far as the engine is concerned and I replaced the under seat triumph air filter with the K&N replacement part today.

Is it my imagination or is the "pick up" from low speed in higher geers vastly improved and it generally feels smoother all through the rev range.

I doubt I would notice any improvement in straight line performance terms as most of the riding here is in traffic.

On the down side, is the engine break effect reduced with the K&N.

I'll be interested to see your coments.

I am given to believe that engine 'brake' is all due to internal friction unless you have a compression release. As such it should not be affected by an aircleaner substantially. Power? Yes it seems to be noticeable, seat of the pants is unreliable for measuring performance mods, but I have heard it reported that the RIII picks up three HP on the dyno just by removing the seat, which is rather restrictive. I am currently, (briefly) without filters, having removed the secondaries and left off the air box pending the arrival of a set of K&N's. The bike really 'woke up' with this mod.

O K guys, this isn't rocket science. Simplified explanation: Any engine is just an air pump, close the throttles and little air can get in creating a huge vacuum as the pistons go up and down. This is what creates engine braking.
