What kind of mileage could I expect?

That's the correct answer! If you're looking at a 2300cc bike, are you really interested in MPG? Honda makes a nice NightHawk 250 if MPG are a main consideration.. :D

That's like asking what kind of gas mileage does a 426 Hemi Challenger get.. :D

The only reason I'm interested is because abnormal mileage is a sign something is up with the engine. Thus, I check it periodically. Besides, I'm just anal that way.

Well, mine wasn't a Challenger, it was a '71 Cuda, but both are E-bodies and weigh close to the same, although the Challenger was 2" longer. Anyway for those that are curious I got right at 6 MPG driving like a reasonable human being, but it could get really stupid low MPG at times. The new 6.1L Hemi Challenger is supposed to get 18 MPG and make more power than the old Hemi did stock and run on modern low octane fuel.

The Cuda is gone, BTW. I had to sell it to pay bills when I got ran over in 2006 on my last bike.

I was joking about wanting to know MPG, of course... :)

I've never had the fortune to own a big block Mopar, though I've had the opportunity to drive a few! I've owned several Chargers, all 318 powered, a 340 Duster, a 360 Duster, a '68 Satellite Sport Convertible that had a 360 in it when I bought it. I always told myself "one of these day", but then I went heavier into motorcycles.

My Rocket III is my substitute for my big block Mopar.. :)

Thanks all for your replies. I live in Arizona and the fueling stations can be few and far between, so I like to know what I can expect for mileage and plan my trips around fuel stops. (When we get hydrogen powered "Jetson" bikes and can just pee in the fuel tank I won't worry so much. LOL)
Besides, I find it challenging to see just what I can squeeze out for mileage. My Suzuki VL1500 gets 40 mpg city (even with a heavy wrist), when most the other guys are complaining of only getting 30-36 mpg no matter how conservative they drive. I did 180.2 miles on a trip, one up, full saddle bags and a large passenger rest bag and got 51.49 mpg. I really started sweating when the last bar on the gage had been flashing for more than 20 miles. When I filled up, I still had .7 gal left (4.2 gal tank).

Thanks again for all the replies!

MPG claims

Yep, when you are having fun who is looking at the pennies anyway? When it gets too expensive to run the Rocket Touring (why do they they use the verb and not the noun Tourer?) the family sedan goes first and then her Vespa scooter second...#*!" the arabs anyway!

Regards

All the gas around here is the 10% ethanol blend, I have TORs without a catbox, and a big Clearview windshield my MPG is 32.8735, plus or minus .8735.:p Does anyone know if the ~7% speedometer error include the odometer?

The Touring/Tourer names are both used;
See here:
Rocket III Tourer

The short-lived 2007 Tourer Limited Edition Model was just a Classic Model with the addition of a windshield, panniers (saddlebags), backrest and luggage rack from the factory - and a choice of two-tone paint schemes

Rocket III Touring

The 2008 Touring version has more torque at lower revs – 209 Nm @ 2,025 rpm - but less horsepower at the top end. The five spoke design used on the Rocket III were switched out for billet aluminum slotted wheels and narrower tyres were specified to improve steering with a 180/70 x 16 rear tyre that makes it easier to fit large, detachable panniers that come as standard, together with a removable windscreen and Kayaba rear shocks for a softer cruising set-up. In 2008 the colour schemes were Jet Black and the two-tone options of Eclipse Blue/Azure Blue, Jet Black/New England White and Jet Black with Sunset Red.

The odometer is correct at the factory 7% speedometer discrepancy, if you correct the speedo with Tune-boy the Odo is then wrong.

And TxRIIIRider, I know you didn't really wonder what kind of mileage that a 70's Hemi Challenger got, but I actually knew something and just wanted to share.:D BTW, of all the Mopars that I've owned the Hemi Cuda was not exactly my favorite, that honor belongs to my 340/4-speed 1969 Dodge Dart. The Cuda handled like an under-inflated beach ball where as the Dart was well balanced and would corner like nobodies business. And with the 340 it definitely was no slouch off the line. The Cuda was far from being a show car, the only thing that held the rust together was rust and wel there was the rust. The only thing going for it was the factory Hemi and the fact that a build sheet had survived under the rear seat.

i bought mine on a thursday rode it on twisty coastal roads for the first 400 miles. then went up the interstate to washougal wa, had the oil changed at 700mi and then saturday made the ride home, another 700mi. this was all highway 5. ride for 150mi stop for gas and red bull, ride 150mi stop for gas and red bull all the way home.
i kept all the reciepts and the average for the whole trip was a tick over 40mpg.
For a 800lb, 2300cc beast i was happy with this. my ford ranger with its 2300cc motor only gets 27mpg but then weighs slightly more.

I'm looking forward to that kind of experience! I'm definitely getting the Rocket. Almost got it last weekend. The dealer was going to give me a good price, but then my trade didn't come near where they should have. So I'm trying to sell it myself and go in with cash.
Hope to be riding one this weekend.
