Whaked Out Fuel Gauge

Sorta related, what do you guys call "full? I'm in CA and you have a seal thing on the hose you have to hold back to fill a bike. That being said, i can see a bar in my tank that is easy to fill to, but you can still get nearly a gallon in on top of that bar if I work at it.

Are you are talking about the stainless looking plate inside and below the filler neck? If you are, don't fill above the plate especially if you have the emission canister installed. You must allow for expansion of fuel or you will saturate the canister with fuel and ruin it. If you have removed your canister and overfill the tank, you could cause fuel to drain to the ground as it expands. I am talking about the Roadster model here but assume the Touring is the same.

Hmmm....yes, mine is a touring. Not sure if it's a plate, unless it is sideways. It looks like a wire rod across the opening. I'll have to take another look.

Interesting, my fuel gauge worked fine on my touring for 2 or 3 years, but when I got it back from Carpenter after engine mods, it only went to 5/8 when filled. They denied they could have had anything to do with it, I've always assumed they bent the float rod changing the fuel pump, but then it worked once this summer, went to full once, then not again, after not working for 3 years, I'd be interested in your outcome, doesn't seem a bent rod could suddenly show full, even once.
