Wanting to test the waters of the darkside.

Followed Donny when he tried out a car tyre .. it was frightening watching him go through the twisties. He too was jack of chewing through ME880's .. I was so concerned I offered to buy him a bike tyre, seriously. He's a single dad with 4 sons. He put a bike tyre back on his bike shortly after that, said he didn't really feel confident on the car.. Donny is one of the best riders I've ever ridden with by the way.

One thing that keeps being overlooked in this conversation. If you ride your Rocket to the limits, i.e. try to ride your 800 lb motorcycle like it is a squid bike, then don't go darkside. It's not for you.

However, if you are a less aggressive type rider, primarily a commuter/tourer, then darkside is very appropriate. 50,000 miles so far with no issues. Riken Raptor 225/55ZR16.

Agreed, I backed off once the tire went on. I do a lot of miles and IL is flat, so it works out great.

So this wasn't true? I'm lost for words.:roll::roll:

There are facts and opinions,

Fact gas mileage stayed the same
Fact 0 to 60 and 0 to 100 times are faster
Fact way more traction in wet weather than stock
Fact way more contact patch than stock
Fact faster through turns than stock by 5 to 10 mph
Fact hand full on slow dirt or uneven roads

I don't think I need to comment on your ranting any more - you do such a good job on your own.
I don't need to, but I will. :)

I backed off because there are no turns where I live, but if i have to I can take turns faster... I am not ranting you are...

Oh, I see. I gotta ask. If there are no turns, how do you know you were 5-10mph faster through them? No, don't worry about it. It's obvious.

Not my first R3, not my first car tire, I average 25-35000 miles a year, most of it in the state of Illinois, eventually I get on the same roads more than once... if I travel far enough I find a few turns...
If you count on and off ramps onto an Interstate then I take the same 2 on/off ramps twice a day, 5-6 days a week, the fastest I have been able to take them has gone up since the car tire went on.
I speak to the current R3R, the last one I had was a R3T...

No Rich it is to wide and not suitable, also Richard is right about that particular tyre, if looking to go dark you need to go for a "Hi- Performance Street Car" tyre in size around the 245/50/16, 245/55/16 or 235/50 - 60/16 or 225/60/16 range.
245 is the max width you will fit between the swing arm, a lot of guys over in the States actually prefer the 225/60/16 size, I actually like and have run the Federal 595 245/50/16 as a great DS tyre and now I have a second rear rim will get one again for touring while towing my camper trailer.
hope that helps you
just put a gt radial champiro uhp1 with beads in it had it up to 200 steady as

I dunno guys. Seems to me the Rocket drags pegs way easy on either mt or ds. I prefer the ds and ride a lot of corners and high speed sweepers every day. But that's just my 2 cents....probably not worth a dime.

Mate sounds like it'd suit my application perfectly , simply because i commute between Gold Coast and Brisbane for work and traffic is rancid most times on the way home, which means i spend alot of time moving up the verges , already picked up on puncture and im guessing a car tyre would be a bit more sympathetic to sharp objects than a soft bike tyre , am i wrong ?

Also who would you get to fit it ? Would it be a matter of me removing the rear wheel and getting it fitted at the tyre shop , just asking as i dont think i'd like to let some numpty looose on my bike with a rattle gun :)
just tell the car shop its for a sidecar and u can also use balancing beads inside I run a gp radial 225 55 16
